The average annual employee attrition rate is 13% 😱 When it costs c.£3,000 to fill a role, bringing this number down really matters 🤑 What are the key things that will help you to retain great talent? 🧲 1️⃣ A great working environment Flexible working has been shown to reduce staff turnover by up to 87%, according to CIPD. Giving people a working environment in which they can thrive is a sure-fire way to improve happiness, engagement, and therefore retention. Showcasing this working environment early on will help to attract aligned talent whose expectations are well-managed and therefore more likely to remain with the company. 2️⃣ Reward, recognition and progression Regularly measuring against the market to ensure you’re paying fairly, rewarding people’s hard work in big ways (annual bonuses, commission. etc.) and small ways (gestures to say well done, praise, etc.) are key to holding onto the best people. Having to battle every year for a pay rise will be a sure fire way to lose people to a better paying job elsewhere. People will also leave if they feel underappreciated, so get recognising, praising, and reviewing! 3️⃣ Taking a skills based approach to roles This is a new kid on the block, and one that ranks number three in HR people’s concerns going into 2024 according to a new report by Mercer. In more volatile economic times, it’s important to be able to hold onto employees that you think are brilliant, even when their role isn’t super in-demand. Taking a skills-based approach to understanding people’s job descriptions enables companies to redeploy, promote, and retain talent.
