We recently enjoyed the opportunity to meet with Mara McDermott, CEO and Founder of Accountable for Health and one of Pearl’s Top 50 Value-Based Care Thinkers of 2023, when the Pearl team visited Washington, D.C. as part of our Drive for Better Care. 🔍 **Transparency Matters: Examining Allina Health's Billing Practices** 🔍 In a recent development that has caught the attention of the healthcare community, Allina Health finds itself under the scrutiny of the Minnesota attorney general's office. Allegations have emerged, suggesting that the facility made a contentious decision to withhold treatment from patients who have outstanding invoices beyond a certain limit. 🏥 The news sparks a vital conversation about the intersection of medical care and financial responsibilities. Healthcare is a fundamental right, and instances like these prompt us to reflect on the balance between billing practices and patient well-being. 💡 As the investigation unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the importance of clear communication, fairness, and compassion within healthcare systems. Striking the right equilibrium between managing financial aspects and delivering care is essential to upholding the integrity of medical institutions. 🌐 The focus remains on ensuring that patients receive the attention they need without unnecessary obstacles. This situation underscores the broader need for transparency, empathy, and collaboration to enhance the patient experience and promote trust in healthcare systems. 👥 Let's engage in a thoughtful dialogue about how we can collectively uphold patient rights, support fair billing practices, and strengthen the patient-provider relationship for a healthier future. #HealthcareEthics #patientcarefirst #TransparentPractices #Healthcare #integrity #patientcare #RightsMatter

Need a podcast to kickstart your week? In this interview, Chair of Privia Women’s Health and President of Virginia Women’s Center, Keith Berkle, MD, MBA, discusses payer contracting, challenges within private practices, industry competition, and more! "In private practice, we’re able to focus on what we believe is really important to drive equity and savings to make our patients’ healthcare dollars go further. We can holistically develop our business plan, model, schedules, and compensation structure so that we have happy doctors and well-cared-for patients. And I’m not sure that my colleagues in the health systems have that degree of control over their day-to-day," Keith said. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/ezN3v9rS #priviahealth #priviaproud

Last month, BC Family Doctors’s Board hosted a gathering of family physician leaders to discuss what Family Doctors need from digital health care. The panel of digital health thought leaders talked about the triumphs and trials of EMRs, digital prescribing, virtual care and more. This collaborative approach is aligned with our strategic thinking at HDC. Baseline standards of our EMR partners reduces administrative burden, allowing knowledge from data to be more transferable. Here's what BC Family Doctors learned from their discussion. . Lots of points resonate with us. What about you? https://lnkd.in/geuR9-_s #bcfamilydoctors #digitalhealth

Update regarding our 11/12/23 Call to Action: Overall, we made good headway at the capital yesterday (November 14, 2023). Unfortunately, the senate healthcare workshop ran an hour over and we were not able to speak directly to the entire committee during the proceedings. However, we were able to meet with and talk to many influential lawmakers to share our initiatives and how we can be part of the solution to Florida's healthcare workforce crisis. In the workshop, a panel of 6 healthcare workforce experts spoke about innovative ways and proposed solutions to this crisis. Unfortunately, this panel did not include an APRN, we are working to have an APRN representative for future panels. We thank all members and non-members for answering our call to action so quickly! We had over 400 providers respond. Those 400 clinics across the state of Florida are caring for over 500,000 Floridians by autonomous APRNs. At the current rate of information, it's reflecting only 20% are affiliated with a physician in some capacity as an employee of the clinic. In case you didn't get an opportunity to put in your own clinic information, we are leaving the form so you can add your practice information using this form -

In response to yesterday's news about the JAMA study into the harms of private equity ownership of hospitals, AIM's president and executive director spoke about the impact these corporate entities have on patients and physicians alike. To sum up in Dr. Fernandez's words, "None of this is good for anyone." National Interprofessional Healthcare Month continues as Joseph Zorek, PharmD, BCGP, FNAP shares another panel from our work together. 'Shocking', from which this panel was pulled, was one of our earliest stories-- the 8th or 9th, out of 35, I believe. It's one of my favorites, as it's very beautifully succinct. Here, Joe and his team wrote a script that highlighted a situationally unique crisis: one that threw the readers right into the mix, without causing any sort of confusion. Throughout the story, we were able to find a really nice harmony between the words on the page and the visuals, and I fondly look back upon that success. If you're curious to see this story in full, (as well as the rest of the stories that Joe has been showcasing) read his full post below for the name of his book, and seek it out!
Continuing this series of posts celebrating National Interprofessional Healthcare Month! This illustration comes from "SHOCKING: An Illustrated Case Study," co-authored with Jeff Fish and brought to life by George Folz. It shines a light on the challenges faced by individuals who live in rural parts of America, where access to timely care - particularly in emergency situations - can have life-threatening consequences. Fortunately for the main character in this case, the seamless transition of care from a talented #EMS team to an interprofessional critical care team ends well. From: Fish JT, Schmidt CR, Zorek JA. Chapter 11: Critical Care. In: Zorek JA. Interprofessional Practice in Pharmacy: Featuring Illustrated Case Studies. New York, NY: McGraw-Hill; 2021:237-254.

Effective January 1, 2024, Southern New England Healthcare (SoNE HEALTH) transitioned to a wholly-owned and wholly-governed physician entity. At its annual shareholder meeting, SoNE HEALTH, the area’s recognized leader in value-based care announced the new ownership and governance structure. The new model – built for physicians, by physicians – is structured to nurture a strong physician-patient relationship. In the words of Anthony Posteraro III, MD, Chair of the SoNE HEALTH Board of Directors. “Nothing is more important to us than the health of our patients, and nothing matters more to patients than their physician relationship. Our new strategic direction will enable physicians to provide our patients with the right care at the right time for the right reasons. With patients and physicians deciding together on care, the end results will be better outcomes, higher quality, lower costs, and higher patient satisfaction.” Read the rest of the story: https://lnkd.in/eXCvTVKT #healthcare #physicianfirst #valuebasedcare
