Here are three foundational metrics that deserve every PM's undivided attention: 1. Retention - This isn't just about counting users. It's about recognising the lasting value your product provides. A high retention rate signals a strong product-market fit, indicating that users find genuine value in what you offer. 2. Engagement - Beyond mere logins, engagement metrics delve into the depth and breadth of user interaction. Are they exploring features? Are they using them regularly? This offers a nuanced view of user behaviour, providing insights into potential improvements or pivots. 3. Monetisation - Revenue streams, be they direct or indirect, give a clear picture of a product's commercial success. It's vital not just for business sustainability but also as an indicator of perceived value among users. While these metrics are critical, every product and market has its unique challenges.
