Over the weekend, this little nugget arrived at our home. A six-month old French Bulldog puppy who had been surrendered by her owner and needed rescuing 🐶 💕 I volunteer for a Bulldog rescue here in Florida. As a foster parent for dogs in need, we take them into our home, rehabilitate them medically and behaviorally, and prepare them for adoption into their fur-ever home. Volunteering is one of those acts that fills my cup. I get to make a difference for dogs in need and also help match them with their perfect adopters. The addition of a new dog in the adopters' homes fills their life with joy, and it feels good to extend my ripple effect of joy in a different way besides the work I do in my professional life. Having a healthy #worklifebalance is one of the reasons why I am able to volunteer. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Giving back in meaningful ways is important to me. It helps me live a more fulfilled life. Being a mom to a human was not in the cards for me, but being a mom to precious doggies in need is... and I love it 💖 If you #volunteer for an organization that brings you a sense of #fulfillment, I'd love to know about it in the comments. What is the purpose of the organization? What do you do to help them achieve their mission? Why does it fill your cup? How can others get involved if they feel called to do so?

Happy 2024! As we begin a New Year, we'd like to share information about our commitment to Responsible Rescue. This is an approach to rescue that we are proud to practice and are committed to continuing to invest in. What is Responsible Rescue? Responsible Rescue means a focus on rescuing the most vulnerable dog populations in the most underserved communities, investing resources into each dog we take into rescue, raising public awareness about the importance of rescuing, and empowering people to give back. Take a look at the infographic below to learn how we practice Responsible Rescue. As the New Year begins, we invite you to #ResolveToGetInvolved - 5 Ways You Can Support Responsible Rescue this year: 1. BECOME A FOSTER: As a foster-based rescue, we DEPEND on foster families! We can only save as many dogs as foster homes we have available. Be a lifeline for dogs transitioning to New York. Fostering saves lives and makes a lasting impact. 2. BECOME AN ADOPTER: Find your new best friend and support our life-saving work as a responsible rescue. 3. DONATE TO BADASS: Contribute resources to save dogs of all breeds, ages, sizes, and medical statuses. 4. BECOME A VOLUNTEER: Join our successful volunteer-run rescue, explore roles, and make a difference. 5. BECOME A PARTNER: Collaborate with us to ensure the best care for Badass dogs in rescue. Today is Celebrate Shelter Pet Day, a day that reminds us of the importance of pet adoption and the love and companionship shelter animals bring to our lives. For many people, their pets are not just animals; they are a source of emotional support and security. This bond is particularly pronounced among those experiencing homelessness, who often find themselves in traumatic and unstable situations. In such cases, they perceive giving up their beloved pet as a worse outcome than remaining in an unsafe or unstable environment. In fact, numerous studies and reports have shown that most homeless individuals would prefer to sleep on the streets with their pets than seek refuge in shelters that do not accept animals. This choice highlights the profound connection between homeless individuals and their pets, with the companionship and unconditional love provided by their furry friends serving as a crucial source of comfort and support. To learn more about shelter pets and the important link between pets and homelessness, head to the link in our bio and read about it on our blog! #ShelterPetDay #communityservice #shelterhomes #newjersey

Here are 3 impactful ways to give back to the cats in your community. 🌟 Join a TNR Program: Take action against cat overpopulation by joining a Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) program. Connect with a local shelter or organization that offers this fantastic initiative. Through TNR, we can help control the cat population, reduce homelessness, and improve the well-being of community cats. Every spayed or neutered cat counts! 🌟 Become a Guardian Angel: Step into the role of a community cat caretaker. Create cozy outdoor shelters using large plastic containers, providing safe havens for these beautiful souls. Fill the shelters with food, fresh water, and warm, snugly blankets during chilly weather. 🌟 Educate and Inspire: Share the importance of responsible cat ownership and the impact of spaying and neutering. Educate your neighbors about the wonderful work being done to support community cats. With just a little bit of love & a few minutes of your time, you can help create a better life for cats in your community. Have more ideas? Let me hear 'em! #Cats #Volunteer #GivingBack

What’s the difference between feral, street and inbetweener cats? 🤔 The Cat Lifestyle Spectrum identifies a broad range of cats with very different needs and desires to live closely with people. 🐈 Feral, street and inbetweener cats are not suitable to enter homing centres because they find close proximity to people stressful and wouldn’t be happy living in homes as pet cats. These cats are best supported in their environment through #TNR (trap-neuter-return) programmes to manage their populations, providing resources if needed and having their health and movements monitored. 🏠 Cats that are suitable to live as pets enter homing centres or foster homes whilst they wait for adoption. Their physical health and mental wellbeing are supported, and they are neutered. ❤️ You can volunteer, make donations of food, resources, or funds, and ensure pet cats are neutered at four months old (before being allowed outside) to help support people working with unowned cats. 🐾🏠 June is National Foster a Pet Month, and at Pathways Counseling Services, we want to highlight the incredible benefits of fostering animals for both the pets and your mental health! Did you know that having a furry companion can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression? 🐶💕 Fostering a pet is a temporary arrangement that involves providing a loving home for an animal in need until they're ready for adoption. It's a rewarding experience that allows you to make a positive impact on an animal's life while enjoying the companionship and unconditional love they offer. 🤗🐱 Many people avoid fostering because they lack information or fear the emotional attachment. However, fostering is a crucial step in helping homeless animals find their forever homes. By providing a safe and nurturing environment, you're preparing them for a successful adoption. 🙏💖 At Pathways Counseling Services, we understand the power of the human-animal bond in promoting mental well-being. Whether you're fostering a playful puppy or a cuddly kitten, the experience can bring joy, purpose, and a sense of fulfillment to your life. 🐾😊 This National Foster a Pet Month, we encourage you to consider opening your heart and home to a furry friend in need. If you're not ready to foster, you can still support the cause by spreading awareness, donating to local animal shelters, or volunteering your time. 📣🐾 Remember, every small act of kindness can make a big difference in the lives of these precious animals. If you're considering fostering or need support on your mental health journey, Pathways Counseling Services is here for you. 🤝💙 #NationalFosterAPetMonth #FosteringSavesLives #MentalHealthMatters #PetTherapy #PathwaysCounselingServices #ScottsdaleAZ
