🚀 Unpopular Opinion: NVIDIA is not the big headline. Why? The biggest challenge we face isn't #GPU (which is pure Capex). It's finding enough megawatts of electricity on the grid (which is R&D). ⚡️ Agree? If so, you know why a small group of #VCs and I recently visited Idaho National Laboratory for an inside peek at the future of new nuclear. 🔋🔬
We should connect to discuss this particular intersection of datacenters, AI, and dispatchable energy sources. I'd be fascinated to understand how this essential need fits into different risk capital models.
You are exactly right we need more energy production but it has to be part of grid expansion and upgrades.
Agree, data centers are a near-term driver but only a portion of the hundreds of gigawatts needed across industries. Will other industries, utilities, public/private investors have the foresight to stick out the next 5-10 years of critical, FOAK nuclear deployments? I believe those investments will be long-term wins if done wisely.
Amazing. Lets use the glowing rocks
Great point. Don’t forget policy/regulatory inputs alongside the R&D…with enough surety and momentum in both, the necessary investment will follow.
Completely agreed. In the context of your increased engagement with Germany, that's a particularly critical constraint for DC expansion there.

1wIt's so true that we often get caught up in the hype around the latest hardware, and forget about the huge energy demands behind it all. Maybe you can give us a little sneak peek at what advancements impressed you the most regarding future nuclear energy solutions at Idaho National Laboratory?
