I’ve seen lots of people holding themselves back from applying for the job of their dreams 😱 In my area, this happens specifically with McKinsey. They see it as the holy grail of jobs and as a consequence think they must achieve something big before they even dare to apply. An Ivy League MBA. Oxbridge education. A handshake from Obama, perhaps. Most likely, whatever you want to do, you need a lot less external validation than you might imagine. You just need to make a decision 🎯 And then to infuse that decision with your drive. Then you need to make a priority. And develop a plan. Often times it’s best to just do what Nike says - #justdoit. Give it your best shot. If it works, great. If not, learn from it, do it again, and eventually it’s going to work out anyway. [First-ever LinkedIn Post] Toronto, September 3rd, 2023 I'm beyond excited to share that I'll be pursuing my MBA at the prestigious University of Toronto - Rotman School of Management🎓 A special thank you goes to my wife, who is not only my partner in life but also in this educational pursuit. Your dedication to pursuing an MBA alongside me fills me with pride and excitement. Our shared commitment to growth exemplifies our strong bond. Leaving UNIQLO was a difficult choice, as it has been my professional home since graduating from university. This is where my passion for Production, Operation, and Supply Chain Management was ignited. Here's an excerpt from my farewell letter. I truly mean every single word in this letter: “My eight years at Uniqlo taught me how important it is to think like a business leader, be honest, and really listen, communicate, and respect others. After all, everyone has different experiences, points of view, and motivations but we are working toward the same goal. I enter every conversation with honesty and willingness to try to understand others’ opinions. I accept people’s limitations, including my own, and plan the best course possible. No matter what challenge, I believe that there’s always a solution.” I hold onto the hope of crossing paths with my Uniqlo colleagues again in this ever-shrinking global village. Before embarking on this MBA journey, I took the CliftonStrengths assessment. My top five strengths are Discipline, Responsibility, Deliberative, Relator, and Empathy. While I was previously unaware of this framework, the results were unsurprising. These five pillars have been the foundation of my life and career without me even realizing it. Discipline: I am driven to complete the things I start. Responsibility: I am committed to stable values such as honesty and loyalty. Keeping promises is my priority. Deliberative: I carefully process my thoughts and prefer to listen to others talk. Relator: For me, a relationship has value only if it is genuine.  Empathy: I occasionally have insights into what individuals are thinking or feeling. Embracing challenges with open arms, I am ready to transform obstacles into opportunities for growth. With the support of my loved ones and the cultivation of my strengths, I am confident in achieving academic excellence and personal and professional advancement. In the words of Jeanette Coron (author of Don't Judge a Book by its Cover), "comfort and the fear of change are the greatest enemies of success". Starting a new role in a multinational corporation implies daily learnings, challenges, and - most importantly - a desire to accept change. Dean Kaden led a session on dealing with change which made my integration within L'Oréal's way of work smoother. Change is an innate part of strategic planning, and so I wish to thank Dean for the following take-away. Change is not only never linear (see chart below) but it also usually starts with shock, denial, and frustration. However, the more you manage change, the easier it is to deal with. The more you purposefully place yourself outside your comfort zone and take on things that alter your status quo, the more you learn and beautify your journey. At Signify, we understand the importance of developing young talent – 22% of our team is under the age of 30, reflecting our commitment to diversity and fresh perspectives.    In my youth, I was fortunate to have incredible mentors who shaped my journey. From playing team sports like ice hockey, handball, and American football at elite levels, to my time in the military, these experiences taught me invaluable lessons in teamwork, discipline and leadership.    Similarly, I encourage us as a company to create the framework for developing and elevating young talents, and not least, to learn from their perspective on the world.   As a mentor to five young professionals, I understand that my role is of great importance in attracting and nurturing new talent. I believe in open communication and regularly have lunches with our young co-workers, fostering an environment where they can ask questions and share ideas freely.   As I reflect on my journey, I realize how my early mentors played a crucial role in who I am today. Now, it's my turn to give back to the young talents at Signify, hoping to impact their lives just as my mentors did for mine. We just finished out Leadership days and we spent one day on behaviors and DEI. The workshops and the panel discussions again emphasized the importance of developing talent but also to learn from them with their fresh and new perspectives. The value goes both ways!
