Last night, I dined at the Chautauqua Dining Hall in Boulder. As I reached the Flatiron's base, I reflected on my numerous attempts to ascend the deceptive "hill" that leads to those magnificent mountains. When I first moved to Colorado, I was new to hiking and dealing with higher altitudes, making it a challenge to reach the top. It took several tries to successfully navigate my way up the hill and the mountains - a 1,400 ft increase in elevation.
However, over time, that climb got less and less strenuous and I even started conducting walking meetings with colleagues and business partners along the way. The breathtaking view from the top captivated me so much that I felt compelled to share it with as many people as possible, especially those who had yet to experience it.
So as I sat outside of the dining hall waiting for the rest of my dinner party, I was reminded of a powerful quote by leadership guru John C. Maxwell that genuinely resonated: "If you really want to be transformed, you have to live an intentional life. Most people don't live their life; they accept their life. And when you accept your life, you are living on things that are not worthy of your time and, effort and energy. To go uphill, you have to be intentional. Nobody went uphill by accident. You've never read a book on accidental achievements."
Living life with intentionality is critical to achieving success and realizing our full potential. Simply drifting through life can lead to missed opportunities and a lack of control. On the other hand, when we actively take charge of our lives and make purposeful decisions, we create a more actionable path towards success.
Accidental successes are rare. Most successful people have a clear intent and drive to achieve their goals. As we navigate our personal and professional lives, we must be intentional in our actions and decisions. We need to be the architects of our own destiny, climbing with purpose and passion, and taking each step with clear intention.
After all, the most significant accomplishments in life are achieved through intentional effort, not by remaining complacent. The journey to success is like ascending up life's peaks, and we must be intentional in our climb, not just coasting through the valleys.
