“Are we there yet?” Nearly! That’s the refrain at this time of year, as staff, pupils and parents stagger to the end of term. My colleague Charlotte Kinnersley, tells me her two children are very much ready for a break and I'm sure they aren't the only ones! End-of-term exhaustion is palpable and yet there’s still so much going on – talking through reports, assemblies, plays, music concerts, trips, sports days, swimming galas, “proms”, parties. I don’t know where they find the energy for all this. Anyway, we’d like to wish you all the best in these last few days of term, if you’ve not yet broken up. We’re nearly there. Almost time to enjoy a well-earned breather. Almost time to let pupils do more of their own thing for a bit – that’s often when they learn the most or discover their passions. Do you have any tips or tricks for parents (and teachers) to help keep pupils going to the final bell? In our house, we used to tick off those last days on the paper family calendar, as well as adding all the fun stuff we had ahead of us in the holidays. Have a great (school) day. Not many to go! #education #learning #schools #teachers #teachersandschoolemployees #privateschools #independentschools #Classoos

Today is World Braille Day, and we want to celebrate that in honour of our students and our inspiring ambassador, Azeem Amir , whom we work closely with to educate people on this matter. We want to make sports inclusive to all, so here's some tried and tested tips to aid and adapt your sessions for children with visual impairments: • Use auditory cues like whistles, bells, verbal directions and communication. • Provide tactile markers on sports equipment and playing areas. • Use bright or contrasting colours so that equipment can be identified with more ease eg. Use dark cones on a light floor. • Offer adaptive equipment such as beeping/jingling balls or goal locators. • Encourage verbal communication among all students to keep everyone informed and involved. • Offer adaptive lessons that allow students to access a sports lesson from their peers point of view eg. Blindfolded activities. • Give children the opportunity to thrive, you will be surprised what they can accomplish when given the right environment to learn. Let's work together to make sports and physical education accessible and enjoyable for everyone! #InclusivePE #AccessibilityMatters #SportsForAll #disabilitysports #inclusivesports #sportsmatters #childrenssports #sportscoaching #inclusivity #adaptedsports #sports4all #edstartsportscoaching #EveryChildDeservesAnEDSTART

In our journey of making the next generation fitter, we came across many parents who tell us that their kid is not interested in this sport or this creative art anymore. What they fail to realise is that it is only natural for kids to lose interest in a specific sport or art. Instilling a lifelong love for sports and creativity is what is most important for staying mentally and physically fit. Our blog today talks about "The fading passion & ebbing palette" - https://lnkd.in/gbpFZAQi

😥 Tears on transitions 😢 The transition back to school, especially after holidays or extended breaks, can often heighten those morning drop-off emotions. My heart has been through many such moments, watching my daughter Penelope, now 8, tear up during our goodbyes since her first day in reception. She also struggles in breaks from other activities such as her gymnastics training. From our journey, here are 4 key strategies I've employed and found helpful for fellow parents: 1. Consistent Routine: Predictability can be a game-changer. Penelope finds comfort in our morning rituals, helping her gear up for the day. Making sure she is prepared in advance and fully ready for the day ahead. 2. Prepping for Return After Breaks: After prolonged holidays or breaks, a gradual shift back to the school routine a few days prior can be beneficial. We'll start with early bedtimes or reading school-related stories, ensuring that school isn't an abrupt shift but a welcomed return. 3. Empathy & Assurance: Validating her feelings has been paramount. A heartfelt, "I understand you're upset, but school is a place where you learn and have fun," often offers solace. Discussion and acknowledgment can be a powerful tool. 4. Post-School Reward: It isn't about grand gestures but small, meaningful ones. Perhaps it's delving into her favourite storybook or having quality time in the evening. By highlighting a delightful post-school activity, it offers her a silver lining to anticipate. Our children's emotional journeys are as diverse as they are. While the sight of our little ones in distress can be distressing, a blend of patience, empathy, and creativity can gradually ease those school drop-off blues 💖 #ParentingJourney #SchoolTransitions #ChildDevelopment #EmotionalIntelligence #School

‘Adventurous Play in Britain’ - Dr Helen Dodd, University of Exeter A summary of research findings; 1. Key facts about children’s play in Britain Children spend the most time playing at home or at other people’s homes. Away from home, children spend more time playing in playgrounds than any other places. 2. Trends in play over time Research conducted together with Play England showed a clear decline in the proportion of children using the street for play from the 1960s through to 2010. It also showed that only 27% of children surveyed said that they regularly played out in their street. 3. The role of parents and the wider environment Children and parents are affected by their environment but also bring their own personal preferences and attributes. The findings demonstrate how the physical environment affects children’s opportunities for play. 4. Adventurous play in schools Perceptions of children matter. If children are viewed as irresponsible and needing adult guidance to know how to play then adventurous play is unlikely to be possible. If children are viewed as being trustworthy and having their own understanding of how to play then this creates space for adventurous play. 5. Adventurous play and mental health Children who spend more time playing adventurously have fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression. 🏫🚸🌿🍁🍂🪵 🚲 🛴 🛹🛼 🛝 🏃🏼♂️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏾👩🦽🚴🏿🚏🚶🏻🤸🏾♂️🤸🏼♂️🌳🏘️ #PlaySufficiency #Play #FreePlay #ActivePlay #PlayStreets #StreetPlay #SchoolStreets #KnowBallGames #Playces #Splace #UNCRC #Article31
