Access to early diagnosis is crucial in autism care, when children show early signs of developmental challenges. Diagnosis is possible at 18 months, yet the average age of diagnosis is over 4 years old. Let's change this statistic. Share your thoughts on why early diagnosis matters and how we can improve access to timely evaluations. #idonotacceptthis #Autismacceptancemonth #EarlyIntervention #ChildDevelopment #earlychildhooddevelopment #healthequity #autism #earlysignsofautism #neurodiversity #developmentalconcerns #CanvasDx #earlyiseverything #nomorewaitlist

Seizures & epilepsy are often listed as comorbidities in those who are diagnosed with Autism (ASD). The relationship between them is is clear - and those with ASD have a 10x greater likelihood of having seizures / epilepsy than the general population but WHY and HOW they are linked remains a mystery. It's a bit of a chicken and egg story; does autism lead to seizures or do seizures contribute to autism or do they simply coexist? Much more research needs to happen. Why is this fact important? As we continue to evolve our understanding of neurodiversity learning about various neurotypes and their comorbidities allows us to modify, accomodate and break down barriers and bias individuals with these invisible disabilities face each day. Engagement leads to learning and learning leads to evolving our mindset, our worlds to be more inclusive; to be truly human centric. **Link to some additional insights in comments** #neurodiversity #autism #epilepsy #inclusion #invisibledisabilites

There is no single cause for autism, and it’s still not clear how the genetic and environmental elements interact to cause a child to develop ASD. The focus on ASD – and related research and treatments – has evolved rapidly and significantly in the last 40 years, but there’s still a lot to learn about this often misunderstood disorder.
