Some smart fleets are not yet trying electric trucks, either waiting for them to get cheaper or to see if regulations ease up. I think this is a mistake for a few reasons, some of which will be discussed during Tuesday's webinar (details below). First, there are some prime locations out there, and you have to be ready to snatch them up. Luck is the residue of hard work, and companies like Zeem (on the webinar) and Revel have been ready to snap up great sites because they knew what they needed. Zeem can share their experience on Tuesday, and my colleague Nocona can talk about where you should look for those prime locations based on where trucks travel. Second, it takes time to learn how to use the new tools (EVs) correctly. Your people need to get smart organically, because that talent and skills are in high demand. Wholesale charging team layoffs that are manna for the competition don't happen that often! Finally, knowing what you need and being smart about EVs means you can be an expert at working around grid limitations with tools like batteries or microgrids. A new all-electric cargo moving machine in Connecticut's New Haven Harbor signals a cleaner future for shipping. Developed by SENNEBOGEN, it's expected to save 350,000 gallons of diesel fuel, benefiting dock workers and residents. The machine offers extreme power and zero tailpipe pollution, with the port investing $7.5 million, aided by state grants. Despite only three ports having this technology, its adoption could improve health, industry, and the environment. Diesel's harmful emissions, including carbon monoxide, affect health and contribute to pollution. Electric cargo equipment is a slow transition due to the weight they haul, but Gateway Terminals LLC aims to make it standard across its 21 facilities, reducing fuel and maintenance costs. This shift aligns with broader efforts to address shipping's environmental impact, including the rise of hydrogen-powered ships. A little late here for those in the know, but wanted to share the important news that the Biden-Harris administration has released its National Zero-Emission Freight Corridor Strategy, It outlines a comprehensive roadmap for the development of a nationwide infrastructure network dedicated to zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. This strategy directly addresses the environmental impact of the freight industry and aims to significantly reduce air pollution as well as improve public health. I live fairly near the intersection of two of the heaviest traveled US roads and air pollution is a serious issue. We've made significant inroads with light duty vehicles through electrification, but heavy duty vehicles will not only need electrification, they will likely need hydrogen. I believe this will lay the foundation for a transition to hydrogen in heavy duty vehicle applications. The plan will be implemented in four phases, with the initial phase prioritizing the establishment of hubs in high-traffic freight corridors. This strategic approach ensures efficient allocation of resources and fosters a smooth transition towards a sustainable freight transportation system.
