One aspect in Powin’s StackOS article cannot be emphasized enough: “collect, store, and analyze granular data down to the _cell_ level”. Reason by way of example: I own 200 Lithium Werks (formerly known as A-123) ANR26650m1B LiFePO cells for a personal disaster response project. While they are quite safe, the risk of something going wrong is never zero—and the worst outcome is a cell whose internal resistance gets too high. Best case scenario: I have a drop in power or the heat dissipated wears out other cells. Worst case scenario: thermal runaway, dramatically increased warranty repair costs required under contract. It’s easy for folks to just think that BESS is “just a big battery”, but a healthy understanding of the _engineering_ efforts to properly INTEGRATE a system deserves respect and appreciation. *PS: LOVE the sensor-specific firmware craft! It only takes one thing to topple an entire system down…

I'm excited to finally unveil what I've been working on for the past few months - Usable Watts ( https://lnkd.in/g6HEYpyZ )! You may have noticed work on WattRank, my battery tech comparison tool, had stalled for a bit. That's because I was heads down building out the broader Usable Watts platform to properly launch WattRank and future "Watts" to come. It will allow better connection with community, through regular updates, posts and discusion tools. WattRank is now also live on Usable Watts, allowing you to visually map out the battery landscape, compare key metrics, and identify benchmark technologies. But this is just the first step! More utilities are in the pipeline. I invite the entire battery community to check out Usable Watts and share feedback to help shape the roadmap. This is a resource built for all of us, by one of your own. Keep an eye out for new features, analyses and insights dropping regularly.
Welcome!

Since 2021, Philip Odonkor and I have pitched Grid Discovery hundreds of times to fellow entrepreneurs, mentors, advisors, investors, future customers, friends, and family. At this point, it's muscle memory (feel free to try me 😎) But what intrigues me the most is how, with each pitch and point of feedback, our message adjusts ever so slightly as we continue exploring product-market fit: 👉👉 2021 Princeton Empower Competition: "Grid Discovery automates the site discovery phase of microgrid development, enabling unparalleled scale and efficiency." (while this is true, we've concluded that engineers need more support beyond just site discovery) 👉👉 2022 DOE Grid Enhancing Technologies: "Grid Discovery aggregates key data points into a thoughtfully designed interface to guide users through the fundamentals of initial project development by providing guided analysis, recommendations, and alerts." (while Grid Discovery offers recommendations and insights, there is less emphasis on a 'guided analysis' as engineers need to get up and running quickly). 👉👉 2023 Techstars Demo Day: Revolutionizing microgrid planning with an intelligent data-driven software platform that empowers engineers to significantly compress costs and time associated with microgrid planning. 🔮 The exciting part is seeing where we will be further into 2024...stay tuned.
