PrairieCare is celebrating 10 years in Rochester! This anniversary is a significant milestone for us, and it holds much meaning for Matt Petersen, RN, our Southern Minnesota Regional Operations Director. He helped PrairieCare at the start in Rochester, hoping to fill a gap in the community. Today, we have seen immense change, growing from a team of 7 to about 50 caring individuals. “Our consistent growth I think helps confirm that we are helping make a difference in people's lives,” said Matt. “An accomplishment I am quite proud of has been our ability to try and meet the community's needs.” Over the years, Rochester has continued to evolve based on the community’s needs. Their team has introduced new adult programming and even specialty tracks focused on disordered eating, Mental Illness/Chemical Dependency, and more. We want to thank our dedicated and caring team members who have contributed to this milestone, including our community partners who have welcomed us and supported our mission of providing the community with the psychiatric care they truly need. #Anniversary #MentalHealth #Rochester #Therapy

Exciting news for mental health care in Oklahoma! 🎉 Construction is underway for new psychiatric hospitals in OKC and Tulsa, while OU Health is building a pediatric behavioral health center. These investments aim to fill critical gaps in mental health services. However, the success of these facilities hinges on having enough clinicians. Oklahoma ranks 47th in the US for mental health provider shortages, leaving many without care. Now, legislators are considering a $36.8 million investment to bolster the behavioral health workforce. According to The Healthy Minds Policy Initiative, this could create over 500 jobs and provide care for over 1 million Oklahomans. Professional Interventions for Child Survivors of Intrafamilial Child Torture For professionals working with child survivors of Intrafamilial Child Torture (ICT), it is crucial to employ evidence-based interventions that address the unique needs of these children. These needs span psychosocial, developmental, medical, and spiritual domains. More importantly, any treatment must begin with ensuring the child’s safety, as no intervention will be effective if the child remains in a harmful environment. Key interventions include Body-Based Trauma Treatment, Yoga Therapy, Theraplay, Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC), Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT), Expressive Therapies, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Practical Steps for Professionals working with ICT survivors: 1. Ensure Safety First: Confirm that the child is in a safe environment before beginning any treatment. 2. Assess Individual Needs: Evaluate the child’s unique psychosocial, developmental, medical, and spiritual needs. 3. Implement Body-Based Interventions: Start with methods that address trauma’s physical impact. 4. Use Play and Expressive Therapies: Allow children to express themselves naturally and comfortably. 5. Promote Attachment and Regulation: Focus on building strong, healthy attachments and teaching emotional regulation. 6. Encourage Caregiver Involvement: Involve caregivers in the treatment process to support the child’s development and healing. These interventions, grounded in the best available evidence, can help professionals provide the comprehensive care that child survivors of ICT need to heal and thrive. Today, for #NationalPublicHealthWeek, let's prioritize building "Healthy Neighborhoods" and supportive communities. Living with epilepsy can be challenging, especially if your immediate circle isn't prepared to respond in case of a seizure. It's crucial that people closest to you, like family and friends, know how to handle a seizure, whether at home, work, or out in the community. Encourage your network to become #SeizureFirstAid Certified. https://bit.ly/4a1LEHf

The American Academy of Pediatrics’ recent policy statement on Emergency Behavioral Health Care offers important guidance. Emergency Departments (EDs) are critical lifelines for youth with complex medical needs or requiring inpatient psychiatric care; yet, it's important to recognize that we can do a better job helping youth avoid the ED for behavioral health concerns. Let's prevent behavioral health crises and reduce the need for ED-based behavioral health intervention by strengthening and expanding access to high-quality care in home, school, and community-based settings! When crises do occur, let's expand alternatives to the ED that are specifically designed for youth, such as mobile crisis (now 24/7 in CT!), urgent crisis centers, and intensive in-home interventions. Learn more about this topic and see CHDI's recommendations in this report: https://lnkd.in/ePH-e64i If a young person in your life is experiencing a behavioral health crisis, call 988 or find a mobile or urgent crisis services near you.
