Propellers have recommended overhaul intervals based on both calendar time and flight hours. This can range from 1,500 to 2,000 flight hours, with particular attention needed after 5 years in service. Don't ignore the calendar limit. For aircraft flying less than 100 hours per year, waiting 20 years for a propeller check is unwise. Overhaul it when it reaches the flight hour or calendar limit, or, if the engine needs an overhaul first, consider overhauling the propeller and governor together. The AN-225 Mriya was designed to carry twice the weight of a Boeing 747🏋️♂️ With a size equivalent to a football field from nose to tail and from each wingtip, and a maximum takeoff weight of around 598 tons, it unquestionably outstripped the 747 in terms of size and carrying capacity. Only one AN-225 was fully constructed. In cases of engine failure (requiring rare alignment of factors due to numerous redundant measures in place), airplanes can glide to a safe spot, while helicopters employ autorotation for a smooth descent. Autorotation is an intelligent measure due to the clever transfer of energy. During autorotation, the engine disengages, but the rotor blades continue to spin as the upward flow of air through the rotor system keeps them rotating. Pilots manipulate the collective control to change the pitch of the blades, optimizing lift, and the cyclic control to adjust the tilt of the rotor disc, controlling forward speed. It's reassuring to witness engineers thoroughly considering all possible scenarios and implementing redundant measures to safeguard lives.
