WILDFIRE UPDATE: Due to wildfires in the vicinity, the Village of Ruidoso was evacuated yesterday evening. Our thoughts are with everyone in the community who is impacted by this difficult and frightening situation. Staff sheltering at Lincoln County Medical Center remain safe and have been caring for a limited number of Emergency Department patients. Other patients have been moved to another healthcare facility. Outpatient clinics are closed and appointments and non-emergency procedures have been cancelled. We continue to monitor the situation closely and will adjust our approach as needed for the safety of our employees and community members. Patients and members who need support with medications or other concerns can call our customer service center at 1-844-505-PRES (7737).

Why do executives and policy makers jump on the evidence that the longer you stay in emergency the poorer your outcomes and miss a key part in the narrative? What they systematically fail to realise is that emergency department pressures and overcrowding is a symptom. A symptom of a hospital that is not discharging patients. That may be due to inexperienced staff not sure if they can discharge, patients not wanting to leave (variety of depth in this), a lack of community based services to support the patient or a lack of rehab or residential/nursing homes to go to. Stop concentrating on emergency departments. When there is places to put people they move and we see the next one.

Within all healthcare settings, particularly in life-limiting, hospice, or end-of-life care hospitals, it is essential to use patients' “names” in conjunction with their room numbers during medical discussions by medical professionals. Addressing the sick, suffering, and dying solely by their "room number” is not appropriate or respectful, and it raises legitimate concerns. #healthcare #lifelimiting #hospice #endoflife #endoflifecare #patientnames #patientcare #patients #roomnumber #hospitals #sick #suffering #dying
