🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 2024 is the year of HIV Prevention! Let's join hands and spread awareness about this important cause. Together, we can make a difference and create a world free from the fear of HIV. Here are some simple steps we can take to prevent HIV: 1⃣ Get educated: Knowledge is power! Learn about HIV transmission, prevention methods, and the importance of regular testing. 2⃣ Use protection: Always practice safe sex by using condoms consistently and correctly. Let's prioritize our sexual health and well-being. 3⃣ Get tested: Regular HIV testing is key to early detection and prevention. It's better to know your status and take action if needed. 4⃣ PrEP and PEP: If you are at high risk of contracting HIV, talk to your healthcare provider about pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). These are medications that can help prevent HIV transmission. 5⃣ Promote inclusivity: Let's create an environment of acceptance and support for individuals living with HIV. The dynamic of an ageing population of people living with HIV is not unique to South Africa, as recently outlined in this article in the journal The Lancet Global Health, but the size of our HIV epidemic means the scale of the effect here is substantial. According to estimates from Thembisa, the leading mathematical model of HIV in South Africa, there are currently around 1.7 million people aged 50 and older who are living with HIV in the country. This number is projected to rise rapidly in the coming years as people living with HIV who are now in their forties get older. https://lnkd.in/eesw3Eyd #africa #healtj #healthcare #medicines #vaccines #publichealth #hiv

Bringing together medical associations, NGOs, and collaborative partners, #GileadTurkey is establishing the 'Stronger Together Against HIV' platform to combat #HIV. The shared vision of the platform is centered around three main pillars: raising awareness about HIV, increasing access to anonymous testing, and developing services and solutions related to HIV. Sebnem Girgin, the General Manager of Gilead Turkey, emphasized Gilead Sciences' achievements in transforming HIV from an incurable disease into a manageable chronic health condition through the development of innovative drugs, including the world's first single-tablet regimen for HIV treatment and various medications preventing HIV infection. She continued her statement by underlining: "In the post-COVID-19 era, the HIV Policies Report, prepared with the contributions of physicians and NGOs in Turkey, has identified enhancing access to anonymous testing facilities and spreading #HIVawareness within the community as urgent actions. As #Gilead Turkey, we are taking action to increase the capacity for anonymous testing in our country, contribute to pre-diagnosis awareness among at-risk individuals, and provide support throughout the journey for those who receive a diagnosis." Girgin mentioned that the current estimated rate of awareness of one's HIV-positive status is at 40%, and she highlighted that if this rate reaches 90%, significant reductions in case numbers could be achieved by 2040. #GileadSciences #GileadTürkiye #StrongerTogether #biotechnology

A little late in the day since today was a bit crazy at work 😊 National HIV Testing Day On this important day, we come together to raise awareness about the critical role of HIV testing in combating the HIV epidemic. Knowing your status is a powerful step in taking control of your health and supporting the health of our communities. Testing for HIV is vital because: 1. Early Detection Saves Lives: Early diagnosis and treatment can significantly improve health outcomes and prevent the transmission of HIV to others. 2. Empowerment Through Knowledge: Knowing your HIV status allows you to make informed decisions about your health and lifestyle. 3. Reduces Stigma: Normalizing HIV testing helps reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV and AIDS. 4. Supports Prevention Efforts: Those who test negative can learn about prevention strategies such as PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) to stay negative. This year’s theme, “Level Up Your Self-Love: Check Your Status,” emphasizes self-respect and the importance of taking proactive steps for your health. Let’s promote regular HIV testing as part of routine healthcare for everyone aged 13-64, as recommended by the CDC. If you or someone you know needs information about testing locations or how to get tested, visit HIV.gov. Together, we can make a difference. #HIVTestingDay #KnowYourStatus #EndHIVEpidemic #HealthAwareness #EndHIVStigma #GetTested
