Lengthy clinical trials may soon be a thing of the past! I’m sure by now you know that I love AI, but I love it even more when it’s leveraged to help people! Researchers at Mass General Brigham have now found that AI software like ChatGPT can help speed up the screening process to help find patients eligible for clinical trials. This will be a huge time saver, as AI will be able to streamline the screening process, and accelerate the recruitment process significantly, which means that drugs and biotech will make it to consumers much sooner. Twin - GPT: A Sophisticated LLM driven Methodology for Clinical Trial Digital Twin Construction Researchers have introduced TWIN-GPT, a novel approach utilizing large language models (LLMs) for personalized digital twin creation in healthcare. TWIN-GPT leverages the extensive medical knowledge embedded within ChatGPT to craft individualized digital twins for patients, offering a groundbreaking solution. Its methodology involves fine-tuning pre-trained ChatGPT models with clinical trial datasets, particularly focusing on the Phase III breast cancer trial dataset (NCT00174655), to refine predictions. By processing electronic health records (EHRs) and employing structured prompt tasks, TWIN-GPT generates detailed digital twins simulating patient-specific medical scenarios, ensuring precision grounded in real-world clinical data. Implementation in clinical trial simulations has shown promising results, with TWIN-GPT achieving an AUROC score of 0.821 in predicting severe outcomes, nearly matching predictions based on real data.
