Built to live on. “With the opening of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center, we pay homage to the brave individuals behind the historic Stonewall Rebellion. We hope it stands as an enduring and resilient symbol and serves as a beacon for generations to come, providing the unique opportunity to step foot on the site where history unfolded and where the fight for LGBTQIA+ equality was ignited.” -Ann Marie Gothard (she/her), Chair of the Board of Directors, Pride Live On June 28, 2024, the 55th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion, the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center officially opens. #meetusatthemonument

At yesterday's West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce luncheon, leaders from five statewide LGBTQ+ organizations shared perspectives and strategies on how employers and community members might support a more diverse and inclusive workforce & workplace. And special recognition to panelist (and my friend/colleague) Dan Jansen, who serves as Board Chair of the Iowa LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce. Policy, urban design, and planning have an important role to play in supporting inclusivity, social justice, and community empowerment for LGBTQ2S+ people. What cities can do to help, could look like: 🏘️Creating and protecting quality affordable housing 🤝Supporting design principles that are based on the experiences of non-binary and trans folks 🎨Celebrating and honoring queer identity through heritage projects and public art The fight for queer liberation is nowhere near over, and cities have an important role to play in uplifting people of all gender identities and sexualities all year round. As a very proud mother of a gay daughter, I’m celebrating Pride 2024 - it’s an opportunity to come together in love and friendship, as well as a moment to reflect on past struggles and ongoing efforts required to achieve true equality. Fostering an LGBTQ+ inclusive and supportive workplace is so important. And the advantages go beyond ensuring that everyone of all sexualities and gender identities feel safe, supported, valued and included – it enhances business productivity and profitability. “The case for establishing a truly diverse workforce, at all organizational levels, grows more compelling each year….The financial impact—as proven by multiple studies—makes this a no-brainer.” Havard Business Review Nov-Dec 2020
CIRO stands with the LGBTQ+ community for Pride Month. “We should indeed keep calm in the face of difference, and live our lives in a state of inclusion and wonder at the diversity of humanity.” – George Takei

Can't wait to get this book! Will be very interesting to read.
LGBTQ Denver by Phil Nash, to be released by Arcadia Publishing on April 22, 2024, is a pictorial history documenting the development of Denver's LGBTQ community, primarily from the 1970s forward. Featuring nearly 200 images curated from historical archives, organizations, amateur and professional photographers, and the author's own collection, LGBTQ Denver tells a visual story about a midsize Western city's evolution from its repressed and closeted past to its status today as one of the most LGBTQ-friendly cities in North America.

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a day of profound historical significance and a symbol of freedom and resilience. On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their emancipation—over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Juneteenth reminds us of the enduring fight for equality and the importance of recognizing and honoring this history. It's a time to reflect on the progress made and acknowledge the work still needed to achieve true equality and justice. As we commemorate this day, it's crucial to also highlight the unique struggles faced by Black members of the LGBTQIA+ community. They endure the compounded challenges of both racial and queer discrimination, fighting for acceptance and equality on multiple fronts. Let’s amplify their voices, support intersectional advocacy, and continue striving for a more inclusive and equitable society for all. Happy Juneteenth! #juneteenth #freedomday #equality #inclusion #lgbtqia #intersectionality #blacklivesmatter
