To my Health Center friends and colleagues….this picture is from 2015, when we fought tooth and nail for increased HC Funding to avoid going over the funding cliff…the very same scenario we face yet again, later this year. At the time of this post, the House was EXTREMELY divided and there was near gridlock in Congress…sound familiar?! After this post, we went on to advocate in the Senate and won HC funding - averted the cliff, and secured access for an estimated 7 million patients whose care was on the line. But, here’s the most important thing…the power of advocacy was ever present and clear. The hard work, persistence and determination of health center advocates across the country produced an increase AND an extension in funding. SUCCESS was achieved through ADVOCACY, grit, commitment, passion and leadership. We can and will do this again in just a few months. Success is not just within our reach, It is the HC legacy - YOUR legacy! I’ve been honored to support and work along side health centers since 2005 - learning from countless colleagues who brought incredible vision and leadership, and who refused to give up - no matter how tired or unlikely success felt - they fought like hell because there were countless people still in need and their mission was to help. I was then, as I am now, inspired daily to keep doing this work because of their commitment. I post this to remind you of YOUR POWER, the power of your voice and your advocacy and the need to keep going! Advocacy is and always will be the path forward - and when we bring that to focus, the future success and impact we can have is limitless. #advocacy #leadership #innovation #chcs #fqhc #healthequity Advocates for Community Health Vernita Todd, FACHE Kaitlin M McColgan, Craig Kennedy, John Sawyer, Kersten Burns Lausch, Michelle Proser, Abigail Pinkele, Anne R., Michelle Jester, MA, PMP, Susan Jenkins Sumrell, Dawn McKinney, Jana Eubank, Marc Wetherhorn, Dorian W., Elizabeth Kwasnik, MFS, Alex Harris, Association of Clinicians for the Underserved

Today is National Healthcare Decisions Day. It's a day that might pass unnoticed by many, but for seniors and their families, it can be one of the most critical waypoints in life's journey. In my work with seniors in South Central Pennsylvania, there's a conversation I've seen make all the difference: advance care planning. It's not just about healthcare. It's about ensuring that the golden years are lived on one's own terms, with dignity and choice. Here's why this day should matter to you: 🔍 Clarity: Advance care planning clarifies your wishes, so your family isn't left guessing. 🛡️ Protection: It protects your rights to receive (or not receive) the kind of care you want. 🤝 Support: It provides support to your family or allies during what can be a stressful decision-making time. 🙏 Peace of Mind: It grants you and everyone involved the irreplaceable peace of mind that comes with knowing there's a plan. Through the stages of guiding families in downsizing or transitioning, I've learned this: talking about healthcare decisions isn't always easy, but it is always necessary. By opening up these discussions, we pave the way for not just health, but holistic well-being. Let's use today to start that conversation. Have you discussed your care preferences with your loved ones? #AdvanceCarePlanning #NationalHealthcareDecisionsDay #SeniorsHealth #FamilyConversations #EmpathyInCare

How HCA, Tenet and CHS have grown — or shrunk — over 5 years: Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare operated 186 hospitals by the end of 2023, up from 179 in 2019. Meanwhile, two other large for-profit health systems — Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems and Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare — have trimmed the number of hospitals they operated over that span. http://dlvr.it/T44PK7

Investing in primary care at BCBSMA
Senior Vice President, Performance Measurement & Improvement at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts
Excited to share Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts’ new program to increase investment in small and independent primary care practices. We know that primary care-oriented health systems produce better, more efficient patient care. We are starting with the practices where resources are needed most urgently—and where we can be sure they will be devoted to primary care. https://lnkd.in/eF649YEh

Thanks to everyone who has contacted Congress! On Thursday, January 18, Congress passed a short-term bill that extends funding for Community Health Centers and primary care workforce programs through March 8. NACHC appreciates that Congress included health centers and the primary care workforce programs in the short-term legislation. Now it is critical that Congress work toward a bipartisan solution to pass a long-term extension that includes an increase in funding. From Modern Healthcare (subscription req'd.): "The measure prevents a partial government shutdown that would have started Friday. Once President Joe Biden signs the legislation, Congress will face a pair of deadlines to fund the government and reauthorize various programs with action on some issues needed by March 1 and others by March 8. As we shift to a population health-focused approach to service planning there needs to be a stronger role for primary care in systems, and for primary care to feel empowered, respected and connected. Primary Care Provider Collaboratives, operating at system and place level, can be the mechanism for this new voice and role. Our new briefing features examples from across the country of how primary care collaboratives are having an impact. It recommends steps to enable them to grow and develop.
