The PCC is grateful to Sen. Ron Wyden, Sen. Mike Crapo, the United States Senate Committee on Finance and lead staffers Marisa Salemme and Conor Sheehey for starting an important conversation about how we can deliver better chronic care. But as lawmakers weigh these important changes, it's essential they place primary care at the center of their efforts.

Should you Bulk-Bill for Medicare services? Here’s why we decided to 👇 The hard truth is this, people don’t always prioritise their personal health, and this is especially true in times of financial hardship. Even seeing the GP is put on the “I’ll go when it gets worse” list due to larger gap fees and expensive specialist appointments. When we were deciding on whether or not to ditch our gap fee we disucssed all the burning points any clinic owner would ask: - Does it devalue our service? - Will this be financially viable decision for us? - Does it imply a lower service quality? These are all viable points and worth investigating before you make a choice. We ended up deciding to Bulk-Bill for one plain reason: it removed a barrier for people to seek help. Ultimately our practice has always strived to do one thing above anything else and that is to prioritize the patient and their experience. - Why do elderly patients get lumped into boring classes? - Why do people living with a disability only have access to facilities that feel like a hospital? - Why are people looking for help made to feel rushed and forgotten? Screw the status quo!

Bill to Finance a State-Run Healthcare System Advances to Assembly Floor!!! The political party in power in California for many years now cannot stop themselves from passing more and more onerous laws and regulations. It's about power, control, and justification for their existence. All at a loss to it's citizenship's freedoms that they are supposed to be serving in their best interests of. This MONSTER - Single Payer healthcare - not only is among the most foolish and dangerous idea ever, but also among the most costly. These same politicians controlling the power in CA., would love to foist upon it's unsuspecting citizens to gain even more control over us, as never seen before in American history. EVERY YEAR California Democrats keep trying to figure out new ways to re-introduce and pass and fund this disaster to your healthcare, freedom and taxes. Speak out now with us to help stop them yet AGAIN - while you still can, and before you seriously regret not doing so. If signed into law, this legislation would create a workgroup to petition the federal government to redirect hundreds of billions of dollars in Medicare and Medi-Cal funding to a costly new, untested state-run health care system, thereby eliminating the Medicare and Medi-Cal programs that serve millions of Californians. Please (re)join CAHIP in expressing your opposition to your Assembly member today!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - December 6, 2023 / DEBATE RECAP: Led by Donald Trump, Republicans Would Take Away Your Health Care The following is a statement from Kevin Munoz, Biden-Harris 2024 spokesperson: “Here’s a fact that conveniently didn’t come up on tonight’s debate stage: The Republicans running for president – led by Donald J. Trump – will make sure that the millions of Americans benefiting from lifesaving health care suffer if Republicans have their way and dismantle the ACA. "And Republicans won’t stop there. They all support a repeal of the Inflation Reduction Act, which would make seniors pay higher prescription drug prices, increase the cost of insulin, and raise health care costs across the board. Just ‘cause! "For Joe Biden and Democrats, health care is a right. For Republicans, it’s a privilege.” Receipts: Haley: “We have fought Obamacare in South Carolina as much as we possibly could. We said no to the state exchanges. We said no to the Medicaid expansion. … They just turned around and set every state back with this bill that we know did not work.” Haley: “When it came to Obamacare, we didn’t just say ‘no,’ we said never… And we’re going to keep on fighting until we get people like [Senator Tim Scott] and everybody else in Congress to defund Obamacare.” Haley: “We would end a disastrous health care program, and replace it with reforms that lowered costs and actually let you keep your doctor.” DeSantis: “We must repeal ObamaCare… I have no desire to ‘improve’ or ‘reform’ ObamaCare. I intend to repeal it.” DeSantis: “Obamacare should never have been passed.” DeSantis: “The full and complete repeal of Obama Care is one of the most critical issues of our time.” DeSantis – Tampa Bay Times: “When he was soliciting Republican votes in the GOP primary, the front page of DeSantis’ site highlighted how he ‘led efforts’ to ‘repeal ObamaCare.’” DeSantis – HuffPost: “As a Republican serving in the U.S. House, [DeSantis] was part of a far-right caucus that voted against the first ACA repeal bill that leadership brought to the floor because, DeSantis and his allies said, it didn’t undo enough of the law’s protections for people with pre-existing conditions. GOP leaders eventually put forward a more aggressive repeal. DeSantis and his colleagues voted yes on that one, but it failed in the Senate.” Christie: “I’ll just tell you my position. [The Affordable Care Act] doesn’t work. It’s a fiction. It doesn’t work and it should be repealed.” Christie – Politico: “Despite the fact that millions of people had enrolled in Obamacare, the health law remains a ‘failure on a whole number of levels’ and should be repealed, Christie said. But, he added, Republicans must also offer a concrete replacement. The conversation, he said ‘must start from a position of repeal.’” ###

🚀 Exciting Progress in Medicare Dental Coverage! 🦷 Medicare has long been a cornerstone of healthcare for older adults and those with disabilities, yet dental coverage has remained elusive. A new article reviews the journey and the prospects of bridging this gap, bringing smiles to millions of beneficiaries. 🔑 Key Takeaways: - Medicare, in its 1965 inception, revolutionized healthcare for seniors and those with disabilities, but dental, hearing, and vision coverage were notably absent. - In 2021, the Build Back Better Act offered hope for a dental benefit, with strong support from various stakeholders. Though the comprehensive change didn't materialize, awareness and advocacy persist. - Recent changes to traditional Medicare in 2023 mark a turning point. Dental services integral to treating medical conditions are now reimbursed under Parts A and B. - Medicare Advantage plans have gained popularity, with some offering dental coverage, though this varies widely. - The path forward includes designing a comprehensive Medicare dental benefit, addressing eligibility criteria, payment structures, and insurance models. - The fee-for-service vs. Accountable Care Organizations debate highlights the need for innovative models to align incentives between patients and providers. - Beyond these considerations, policy decisions will influence the scope, premiums, provider participation, and quality metrics of dental benefits. - A collective call to action echoes through healthcare organizations and patient voices, with growing support for a Medicare dental benefit. The future of oral health equity for older adults is brighter than ever, as the healthcare landscape evolves to include comprehensive dental coverage within Medicare. Let’s keep advocating for better healthcare access and equity! 🙌 #MedicalDentalIntegration #CDA #ADA #MedicareDentalCoverage #OralHealthEquity #HealthcareAdvocacy #AdventistHealth https://lnkd.in/gdu2qzz9

Value Based Care Leadership | Clinical Transformation Leader | Focused on Making Care Better for All | Optimizing Population Health
With the presidential campaign underway and the State of the Union tomorrow, healthcare is a critical issue. A majority of voters from both parties and independents favor lowering Medicare eligibility to 60. Although this will cost dollars, a public struggling with living costs could immediately benefit from Medicare starting at 60. Here are some benefits: ✔️Move significant numbers of those aged 60-64 from expensive high deductible employer-based commercial insurance to Medicare, especially those most expensive to employers. ✔️Newer entrants would certainly shift into Medicare advantage plans which enjoy strong support from both republican and democratic law makers. ✔️new pre-65 Medicare beneficiaries spend much less on healthcare than their older Medicare counterparts but can leverage benefits sooner with better long term outcomes. ✔️older workers with inadequate health coverage would be insured dramatically reducing the number of uninsured nationally ✔️Employers would save dollars on their costliest beneficiaries now in Medicare allowing dollars to be reinvested in higher wages for all workers. ✔️States would save dollars as some Medicaid eligible citizens would shift to Medicare or to dual eligible plans. ✔️Older costly beneficiaries would move off of ACA plans and would no longer require federal subsidy. This shift in Medicare eligibility still necessitates close attention to continued cost management tactics such as drug cost negotiation, PBM reform, site neutrality, value-based payment, payer regulation, and investment in primary care. As election season intensifies, there is much opportunity for candidates to discuss these issues.
