72% of patients decide their health care and treatment options with their doctor, 18% of patients decide together with a family member and their doctor, and 8% of patients let their doctor decide, according to a comprehensive consumer survey by WebMD and The John A. Hartford Foundation. Why it matters? The fact that a significant majority of patients, over 72%, are engaged in joint decision-making with their physicians highlights the crucial role of patient autonomy in healthcare. This underscores the necessity for healthcare providers to not only respect but actively encourage patient involvement in their own care decisions. Our initiative, Age-Friendly Care at Home, is dedicated to supporting the autonomy of older adults in their healthcare choices, providing both the necessary tools and a community that upholds their preferences and values. "Primary care physicians who become associated with health systems more often steer their patients toward the organization’s services, increasing both utilization and care spending, according to a study published Friday in the JMA Health Forum. Between these groups, the researchers found that vertical relationships were associated with a significant, 22.6% increase in specialist visits per patient year, though there were no significant changes in total ED visits or hospitalizations". See my Eric Bricker, MD YouTube UHC Video Repost of 9/7. Politically Unchangeable! 2025 in Self-insured Large Group will be the integration of both the Group Health In-network PPO Plan and the Prescription Drug Plan; with Care & Claim Cost driven by PCP Teams in Narrow Networks. Data, IT/Operational Process and Provider Agreements have facilitated this.
The JAMA Health Forum study validates years of evidence that health system affiliation drives up prices, but doesn’t necessarily lead to higher quality. This is just one of the reasons why Morgan Health and JPMorgan Chase & Co. are committed to expanding access to high-quality primary care – including working with independent care providers like apree health and Central Ohio Primary Care in Columbus and offering virtual-first primary care though Firefly Health.
