Partners in PROMISE would like to recognize Silver Star Service Banner Day on May 1st. Silver Star Service Banner Day is for Americans to recognize and remember service members who have been wounded in combat, are sick, and who are dying. According to the U.S. Department of Defense, the Silver Star Medal is the third-highest medal a member of the Armed Forces can receive for gallant action during combat. The U.S. Army normally awards the distinguished medal as the "Silver Star," while the Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard award the medal as the "Silver Star Medal." All branches of the military give the award as a result of action against an enemy of the U.S. during the conflict over a short period, normally one or two days. How can you recognize Silver Star Service Banner Day: 1. Attend a local veteran organization or military base event honoring Silver Star personnel and families. 2. Display your Silver Star Service Banner outside your home or business. 3. Volunteer to help at a local event honoring Silver Star recipients. 4. Show gratitude and thank all service members for their contributions to our nation. #SilverStarServiceBannerDay #MilitaryFamilies

I wrote a white paper a few years ago about the value of hiring veterans, and the paper is as true today as it was the day it was published. Thank you to each and every one of our veterans for your service to our great country! If you're interested, you can read the article here: https://lnkd.in/eBvKNvF
For the fifth year in a row, our department has been recognized by the Texas Workforce Commission and the Texas Veterans Commission as a "We Hire Vets" employer. More than 32% of our officers are veterans, with four having served in the Army, two in the Navy, six in the Marine Corps, and one in the Air Force. Since World War II, the City of Lake Worth has had a strong partnership with the military and defense communities, and we're proud to continue the tradition of service within our police department through our veterans and department members. Here's to another five years! #WorthIt

Veterans make up 10% of legislators in the states and territories, representing every military branch and the National Guard. What’s my WHY⁉️ In 2018 I volunteered at a Veterans homeless Stand Down, and ran into a person I was stationed with 12 years earlier…unfortunately they were enrolled in HUDVASH and weren’t one of the other volunteers.
“How do I get college credits for my military service?” This is a common question that comes up! “As an active-duty service member, Veteran, or member of the Reserves, you’ll need to request your transcript from your branch of service and share it with schools. Each school then decides how many credits they’ll accept.” Follow these instructions to request your transcript: 1️⃣ For the Army, Navy, Marines, or Coast Guard, go to the “Joint Services Transcript” (JST) website. Fill out an Official Transcript Request to share your transcript with schools online. 2️⃣ For the Air Force, or Space Force, go to the “Community College of the Air Force” website. Submit a request to have your transcript mailed to schools. You can pay for fast delivery if you’re trying to meet a deadline. ✅ Link in the comments! #transistioningmilitary #veterans #milspouse You better call Tyrone

Today marks the 248th birthday of the U.S. Navy. The birth of this fleet initiated quite a debate in the Continental Congress. Samuel Chase, one of the Founding Fathers, firmly believed that maintaining a standing navy was “the maddest idea in the world.” The original Continental Navy was founded, dissolved, and has since evolved into today’s modern Navy, which stands at an impressive level of readiness. There are currently 335,187 active duty service members, 272,505 enlisted personnel, and 191,597 Navy civilians. The US Navy has protected the country throughout its many wars. There are 27 National Medal of Honor recipients from the Navy buried or memorialized at ABMC hallowed sites. “Non sibi sed patriae” – (“Not self, but country”) - Unofficial slogan of the U.S. Navy. Special operations forces — such as Army Rangers, Green Berets and Navy SEALs— make up just 3% of the military. That’s because it takes highly skilled and adaptable individuals to carry out some of the military’s most challenging missions. But what happens when these individuals transition to civilian life? How do you match their skill level and training with a corporate career? Learn how our latest #PurplePaladin, 51 Vets, helps veterans of elite military communities translate their unique experiences into rewarding leadership positions in the private sector, helping them find meaningful careers that match their rare skill sets. https://gt-us.co/3U9axKc #TransitioningMilitary #SpecialForces #FinancialServices #PrivateEquity
