Sadly, we have come to the end of our #THATTeacher series. But we have one last video clip to share from Proximity Learning, Inc. Founder, President, and Author of the book, #TeachersServeToo, our own Evan Erdberg! Some teachers take our fears and turn them into our futures. Slowly, under their guidance the universe begins to reveal an inkling of our potential and we are only given hints as to the greatness we are capable of after their intercession. 🍎 Here is to the Miss Frosts of the world, the teachers that build a future they are not even certain of...a future they may never see...all because they believe not only in their gift of teaching but they see the light in us we don't always know how to shine. Thank you, Teachers! #TeachersServeToo #ThankATeacher #TeacherAppreciationAllYearLong #Teachers #TeacherLife

Adam Grant’s new book - Hidden Potential - is probably his finest work to date. We all are trained to look at test scores and look for child prodigies at a young age - these are ingrained deeply into our culture and society. Yet, talent is not necessarily the best because of the hard skills which can be measured on tests. And just because you were the “best” at age five doesn’t mean you will be at twenty-five. We have to open our minds, realise that the soft skills matter. We can continue to learn and evolve as we age, and that the best talent may not be the “obvious talent” according to popular metrics like school test results. #talent #potential #culture #books #adamgrant #science

For our PD this month at Eurekii, we are reading a classic by Zaretta Hammond. Thank you to Jacqueline Johnson for recommending this to me! The good news is that we already implement many of the recommendations in our work. Here are a few of them. 1. Set high expectations and create independent learners. 2. Build trust first, no learning happens without that. 3. The brain will be ready to learn when it feels safe. 4. Know your own biases and be ready to get uncomfortable. 5. Build growth mindset with learners. 6. Learning happens through discourse and connection. If you are looking for summer reading, I highly recommend this book! #culturallyresponsive #inclusionmatters #mathtutoring #studentengagement #highimpacttutoring #mathtutor #studentsuccess

B O O K R E V I E W Curious Not Furious by Alison Rendle and Kit Messenger is a book full of helpful insights, tools and mantras that make it invaluable for anyone who works with children, young people - or even other adults! The authors' USP is their patient, plain-speaking explanation of the incredibly complex. This helps us feel that everything they are saying is 'just' good old-fashioned common sense, whereas they are actually positing a pretty radical behaviour approach - one which will benefit every child. Short chapters with bulleted summaries and reflection points guide the reader through the principles of a therapeutic empowerment approach, from high expectations and brain fitness to how to respond when things go wrong. Key advice and phrases will stick in my mind. 'Relationships build brains.' 'Children who feel better, do better.' 'Move out of Fixer mode.' That last one is definitely something I need to work on. 🤦♀️ A readable, perceptive, relevant book - one for every teacher, carer, parent and school leader. #schoolleader #behaviour #lifechanging

Novels aren't just for entertainment, they can also be a source of immense personal growth and development. I've found so much inspiration, wisdom, and motivation in the pages of books that delve into the human experience and explore ways to improve ourselves. Lately, I've been diving into the works of some of my favorite authors, like Jane Austen and The Brontë Sisters. Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice' and 'Sense and Sensibility' are timeless classics that provide insights into human nature, relationships, and societal norms. The Brontë Sisters, with their novels 'Jane Eyre,' 'Wuthering Heights,' and 'The Tenant of Wildfell Hall,' explore themes of love, social class, and morality in a way that is still relevant today. I have also started picking interests in books like ‘Think and Grow Rich’, ‘The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People’ and ‘The Richest Man in Babylon’ through The Mentorship Class in the month of Person Development. These books have taught me so much about myself and the world around me, and I'm always on the lookout for more novels that inspire personal growth and self-improvement. 📚 #PersonalGrowth #SelfImprovement #BookLove The Mentorship Class

Brian Tracy is one of my favourite authors when it comes to self-education. Eat That Frog 🐸 was an absolute game changer for us when we were starting out, and I think this quote will really resonate with a lot of people, the same way it did with us! #briantracy #selfeducation #eatthatfrog #propertyinvestment
