While walking in Mexico City last night, I decided to walk into one of the best restaurants in the world and see, by some chance, if they had space for one. Guess what..they had a random cancellation and only one seat available, but this post has nothing to do with food. The restaurant is El Pujol in Mexico City and was just ranked #15 of the top 50 in the world; I've never had a meal of quite this caliber. It was only me, and I was sat at the bar for the 8-course tasting. For anybody who loves food, this is like walking up to the box office on the day of the Taylor Swift show and getting a seat in the front row section. However, this post is about connection, not food. I sat next to two other people who were also there alone. Both were from completely different places with randomly different life stories, but for those three hours, we shared a moment that we all knew was genuinely special and something we would never be able to fully describe to anybody else. At the end of the three hours, we said our goodbyes and returned to the world, never to see one another again. I’ll never forget Michael and Darbin; they will always be part of an incredibly special memory. Somebody once told me that there are friends for a reason, friends for a season and for life; these two men were friends for a reason and it was awesome! Two main takeaways I have from this night: 1) Sometimes in life, you simply need to show up. Nobody could believe that I just walked in, and it was a long shot, but none of this would have happened if I didn't show up and ask. What would it look like to SHOW UP for what you really want and that you may believe is out of reach? 2) Appreciate the relationships and opportunities with others for what they are, letting go of any need for reciprocation or validation. I believe these types of events happen all the time in our professional lives. If we can appreciate those around us for the moments we are together, we can find more joy and satisfaction in the time we spend working without the pressure of future expectations. To my Pujol friends, I will appreciate you both more than you will probably ever know. #CultureFirst

Milky Bar Madness 🍫 🤯 Every week I put together a fun game for our team to play after our end of week wrap up - a quiz showdown with the ultimate prize: A sweet treat of the winners choice! 🍫 🍧 🍨 🍩 🍪 🍰 🍬 🍭 🍦 🍡 Something so small, cheap, easy and costs next to nothing = the team leaving with the biggest smiles. The laughter and camaraderie that erupts brings us all a little bit closer together. Sometimes it really is the simple things that create a great working culture. 🧡 Sure, we've have our fancy team outings, bougee restaurants, incentive trips etc but nothing quite compares to the simple joy of a little chocolate-fuelled team building. Because at the end of the day, it's these small moments of fun and connection that really create the core culture of not just our business Alnaas Advisory but any business ✨ P.S. Why did I title this "Milkybar Madness" because last weeks winner decided to share their prize on Tuesday and the team really did enjoy themselves..... please take a look at exhibit "A" below. 👀 I am not naming any names but 54 bars and I'm left with only 2 on a Thursday 🤫 😂 Can't wait for this afternoons 90s and Early 2000s Music quiz!!!! 👩🎤 I'd love to hear what other companies and people do that helps build culture? 💭 In the famous words of Peter Drucker "Culture eats Strategy for breakfast" 🙌

High Performing Teams don’t just happen, they are built over time, through small moments that build trust and intimacy. 🥰 The annual Butlerness Bash is just one of these moments. The weather was kind to us but as a group we were there to have a good time whatever the weather! 🌞 ☔️ It would be easier to go and do an event like this at a dedicated place, but that isn’t Butlerness, we stick to our roots for what makes our winning culture. Building and dismantling a bash like this together, finding the local beer 🍺 and pig 🐷 supplier, connecting up kegs and finding the person in the team who has a DJ talent, all adds a layer of intimacy. We spend so much time with the people we work with, it’s important to get to know the people that support them outside of work, understanding that enables us as a team to better support each other, which in turn drives the vision. A high performing team and a great place to work. A question that needs clarifying before next year, I could do with your help on please…. Can you be out in rounders by someone throwing the ball at you between bases?! 🎾 #HighPerformingTeam #BritishManufacturing #Butlerness #CheeseLover

Friends of the Upstate of South Carolina!! The month of March has been declared "Upstate International Month" and we at Upstate International are trying to bring awareness to the great international presence we have in the region. We invite you to celebrate in a number of ways! 1. Just celebrate personally! Wear a t-shirt from a country you've visited. When someone asks about it, remind them that March is Upstate International Month. Eat at international restaurants. Join a meetup group of internationally-minded people. Hang out with your international friends. Just try to use the month to focus on how amazing it is to be in an area of the country that has such a global presence! 2. Consider hosting an event. It can be small or big. Maybe you're a teacher. Consider having an internationally-themed drawing contest for your class. Maybe you own a restaurant. Consider including menu items for the month that are internationally-themed. If you DO host an event, no matter how big or small, let us know about it! We can put it on our calendar to help advertise for you and let the community see the cool stuff going on. We've already got a lot of great events lined up. For example, the Clemson University student carillonneurs will be playing 25+ National Anthems on their 48-bell carillon (I had to google that one) on Friday, March 1st to kick off the month. Sweet Bites of Italy (https://lnkd.in/euKmDGJV) will be offering an Interactional workshop called "Authentic Ethnicities" on the nature and meaning of our ethnic/cultural identity. There's so much going on already and there's a lot you can do too!! If you're interested, fill out this form here - https://lnkd.in/ePS4VWUf - and we will get the word out for you!!! You can even include a picture if you want. 3. Download our app. We will be using the Whova App for the month (more info to com) that will have lots to offer. It will have a calendar of events so you can look at things you can go to during the month. It will also have a photo contest where you can upload some of your favorite photos you've taken of international things and others can vote on their favorites. It's 100% free to enter! There will be different themes (e.g., landscapes, food, people). During the last week of March, we will host an event to reveal the winners of each category and offer them a prize. 4. Sponsor us for the month. Sponsors of some categories will enjoy advertisement banners on our app. Maybe you want to sponsor us by providing prizes for the photo contest (e.g., a gift card to a restaurant). No amount is too small. Message me if you'd be interested in that. In general, we hope that this March really draws attention to how special the Upstate is. I'm proud of where I live. We have so much diversity. People from all over the world live here and this is our chance to celebrate - however you can!
