New rule: the interview process to hire someone shouldn’t be harder than your interview was when you got hired. If you interviewed 20 years ago and only needed to meet with 3 people, I would say that was a solid interview process because you seem to be good at your job if you’re now the hiring manager. Let’s dead the trying to make it harder for those coming up under you.

In part, this is because your time is valuable, and once you value your time, others will respect your time. Hey Employers, When you ask someone to interview? You’re asking them to: - Take time away from their job - Take PTO for multi-hour final rounds - Take time away from family and friends to prepare So when you have a 5+ round interview process? It’s not a sign of a company that cares deeply about “preserving its culture.” It’s a clear indication that you don’t respect your candidates or their time. If you can't make a decision in 3 conversations (or less)? Your interview process is broken.

It's challenging to have a flawless interview. Everyone, including the interviewer, is human! If you stumble or get tripped up on a question, don't let it set a negative tone for the rest of the interview. Maintain your confidence, take a deep breathe, collect your thoughts, and move forward. If you have the opportunity to correct yourself appropriately, take it, but don't let a small set-back stop you in your tracks.
