I am going to miss attending Spielwarenmesse eG this year. A remarkable event that brings together toy industry professionals from all over the world. Exhibitors, on the other hand, will surely not notice my absence since the number of toy distributors in UAE are on the rise! The toy industry in UAE alone is becoming increasingly competitive due to the large number of distributors vying for a share of the market, considering that we have a population of 10 million. Three things to keep in mind if you are a toy distributor in GCC visiting the toy fair: 1. It is crucial for us to correct the GCC market perspective in the international landscape. So fellow distributors, please provide a realistic outlook about the region to the brands you meet in Nuremberg by keeping your volume commitments aggressive but realistic, no matter how large your financial resources may be. 2. Collaboration is the way forward and essential for success in our region. The retail industry is facing challenges, our customer base is shrinking and getting our payments from customers in the region has become a joke. By working together, we can overcome the obstacles we face and find innovative solutions to drive growth in our region. 3. Wear very comfortable shoes! Do you have any tips/advice to share with anyone visiting the toy fair ⬇️.

A great question that prompts us to reconsider the 'trade show' role in the customer journey. The SEMA Show, with its electric atmosphere and showcases like the carbon-kevlar Porsche 356, is a prime example of how these events excel at raising awareness rather than closing deals. As exhibitors, if we enter these shows with the expectation of immediate orders, we might need to adjust our mindset. Trade shows are about planting seeds, not necessarily harvesting them on the spot. They're a platform for sparking interest, forging connections, and telling our brand's story. The real magic happens in the follow-up, where the relationships nurtured at the show are developed into deals - and this can be enhanced by digital experiences. So, perhaps the question isn't just whether trade shows are worth the investment, but also if we're leveraging them effectively within our broader sales strategy. Trade shows aren't what they used to be. I've been to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas seven times, but this was my first time actually seeing the show. It felt so good to reconnect with the automotive industry (and see unreal projects like this carbon-kevlar Porsche 356 😍). Going from feeling the immense pressure of being an exhibitor, to now having the time to absorb the complete show experience, I can appreciate the incredible effort brands put into their booths. But that has me wondering... With the advances in digital experiences, and the power of sales intelligence software, are trade shows still worth the investment in time and money?
