France continues to charm with its wine and cheese🧀! Xi Jinping was received for an official dinner this Monday by President Macron: Munster, Roquefort, Camembert, Comté, etc. The heavy artillery is out 😂 There must be some multi-storey diplomatic towers for France to continue making its cheeses and wines a diplomatic weapon (however subtle) since notably the Congress of Vienna in 1814-1815 and the famous cheese competition organized by Prince Charles Maurice de Talleyrand Perigord (won by France by the way🇫🇷), which may have incidentally saved France from being carved up after the Napoleonic defeat. Nevertheless, these dinners remain loaded with symbolism and messages that are interesting to decipher. This ranges from the colors chosen for floral arrangements, the exchanged gifts, to the guests. Xi Jinping reportedly received from the French president a Chanel bag, 2 bottles of cognac, and books by Victor Hugo (he is apparently a fan of Victor Hugo) 📚. Bernard Arnault, Luc Besson, Salma Hayek, and many others were in the front row. The rest, well, I'll leave that to your interpretation! As Mexico intensifies its trade ties with the U.S., certain states are poised to feel the tremors more significantly. Naturally, border states – California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas – are at the epicenter. Their deep-rooted Latino communities and extensive U.S.-Mexican affiliations have been testaments for years. However, this influence isn't static; it's migrating northward. Major trade hubs like Chicago, Seattle, New York, and Miami are not immune and will increasingly experience this evolution. Cities such as Houston, San Diego, LA, and Phoenix have been in the midst of this transformation. Even if your city lies farther from the border, prepare for a growing resonance of this shift in the coming decades.

Last Tuesday I had the privilege to attend the 2nd Binational Convention of the American Society of Mexico on Nearshoring, during which I had the pleasure to meet Honorable Ken Salazar, Ambassador of the United States to Mexico. It was a real pleasure to hear Ambassador Salazar speaking so highly of Mexico and the great moment both countries are living in terms of integration, commercially undoubtedly, but not limited to that as social, cultural, and political areas are also key parts of this deeper integration process we are now living. Besides the many important messages Ambassador Salazar transmitted during his speech, the one that resonated and inspired me the most was the solid intention the US Government has in helping Mexico overcoming the present obstacles we are facing in terms of readiness and speed for this integration, such as security, labor conflicts in Mexico and energy policies, among others. Ambassador Salazar is confident the USMCA will provide the right mechanisms to work on them and remarked that it is imperative the North American region soon reaches full independence on supply chains.   I found this especially important, as it reinforces my hopes on the strength of this effort in transcending the different political agendas on both sides of the border, and providing the people with the prosperity this greater integration will surely bring.
