In my opinion, the first thing to do as a language teacher is to give your students confidence. Here are three important tips. #teacher, #French, #confidence
Confidence can often prove to be a troublesome barrier to effective and efficient communication in a foreign language. https://lnkd.in/dAS8CW4

State Certified Remote & On-Site Human Court Interpreter OR & WA - Spanish<>English, Master Level Designation (OR)
🚥 A form of censorship. «When there are no interpreters, there can be a form of personal censorship, i.e. "I don't speak the working language well enough to go into as much detail as I'd like to, or even to take the floor", and so the arguments and subjects that can be brought up are limited if you don't feel you can express yourself properly. In this respect, interpreters have a major role to play: the people in the room can say whatever they really want to say, and not just what they are able to say.» What a profound observation. Could the same be said of situations where people in roles of authority, such as judges, physicians, lawyers, government officials, social workers, school teachers, employers, etc., rely on their limited foreign language skills to “get by” in professional settings during which they interact with people who do not speak the local language fluently and come to them for assistance? #languageaccess

TAFL Consultant | Teacher Trainer | Arabic Curriculum Expert | Author | Multilingual & Multicultural | I teach at NYUAD
If you teach Arabic at the Advanced levels, this online module will be particularly useful in helping your students develop their Intercultural Competence in Professional-Level Speaking. Remember that demonstrating command of the language in public speaking, not only involves fluency, using appropriate technical lexicon, or displaying grammatical accuracy; it also means using words that will not cause any cultural dissonance in the target audience. When discussing sensitive topics this is extremely important, because the audience is more attuned to cultural inappropriateness. Successful public speaking, therefore, requires that the speaker is well aware of all the sociocultural aspects connected to his topic, and its connection to lexical choice and impact. #Arabic #interculturalcommunication #interculturalcompetence https://lnkd.in/dYkF-xbn

Don't let a single language erase your roots. As parents, it's important to encourage our children to embrace linguistic diversity. While English proficiency is valuable, it's essential to preserve our cultural heritage. Multilingualism enriches minds, fosters cultural empathy, and broadens perspectives. Forcing children to abandon their mother tongue can erode cultural identity. Let's empower our children with the best of both worlds: global communication skills and a strong cultural foundation. By celebrating our native languages alongside learning English, we can ensure that our children maintain a connection to their cultural roots. Remember, language is just a mode of communication, not a sense of sophistication. Let's prioritize cultural values and respect. #LanguageDiversity #CulturalHeritage #Parenting #GlobalCommunication.
