Robert Baesman’s Post

More nostalgic fun from the VMW EUC archives. This video 📽 is a bit embarrassing, as it features yours truly as a fictitious IT director trying to support the whims of his CIO. Alas no academy award was earned 😞 -- what a snazzy shirt and tie though, and hats off to Lazlo for his performance as the "in the know" IT guy. We used it as a fun intro at a session on Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) initiatives for a VMworld session. Spiritually, I loved this sort of creative hustle that we'd do to get a point across in tradeshows, user conferences, etc. We were dealing with pretty complex, highly technical products ⚙, but it still helped to engage in a bit of storytelling 📖.

I brought extensive marketing experience when I joined VMware. But I gained so many basic PMM "chops" in my four years in the EUC team. We were hustlers. We did our buyer and user research to then tell a story and crank out compelling content. We used internal resources to deliver live-action videos from the POV of fictional characters. In short, EUC sharpened my ability to craft and deliver impactful content at a rapid pace. I appreciate the memory, Robert Baesman. This was good for my spirit 💖 as well.

Love it Robert Baesman! These ‘real’ conversations/working session discussions between people customers would relate with (CIO, Dir IT, IT expert) are so awesome at getting complex points across in ‘non-marketing’ ways! I used that method at a Microsoft keynote a couple years ago to show how devs partner with IT to solve real problems every day in the office.

That is awesome! A young you!
