Why Are Employers Firing Remote Workers In 2024? Employers are increasingly firing remote workers in 2024, driven by a push for the "Great Office Return." A Resume Builder survey found that 90% of employers plan to return to office-based work, with many tracking attendance and firing those who resist. Companies believe in-office work boosts revenue, productivity, and culture. However, forced returns widen the talent gap and discriminate against those unable to commute, like caregivers and disabled workers. Successful remote-first companies like HubSpot and Airbnb offer flexible policies, showing that remote work can be effective without compromising business goals.

Do companies get to pay employees lesser than market standards if they are a REMOTE firm? 👀 While attending interviews, after I answered the “expected salary” question, the HR said to me - “BUT ITS A REMOTE ROLE”. I was a little disappointed. 😑 This was a very reputed company, rallying about their remote work and culture, and their HR making remote work seem like “Easy or No big deal” was quite shocking. 🤷🏻♀️ I went on to say to him “But it’s full-time, but it’s a senior role with demanding roles & responsibilities right?”, and quickly he dismissed that conversation. Yes remote work might allow for some flexibility, but most importantly we get paid for the work we deliver and the responsibilities we take up in the growth of a company. Remote work doesn’t mean we can sit back, underperform and get away with right? So why do companies think they do us a favour? Has this ever happened to you? How did you handle these kind of situations?

I want to hear your thoughts. What do you think about this situation? This employee was holding two jobs (both remote) and was doing work for the second company while on payroll for the first. The obvious answer is: "Well yah! They are stealing from the company so they should be fired." How do you feel about remote work and someone holding two remote jobs, even if the work for their employer gets done?
I caught my employee secretly working a second remote job. Here's why I decided to fire them — and why I think overemployment is sometimes unethical.
