Juneteenth (known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, and Liberation Day) is a federal holiday, celebrated annually on June 19th in the US to commemorate Union Army general Gordon Granger announcing federal orders in the City of Galveston on June 19, 1865, proclaiming that all enslaved in Texas were now free. Although the Emancipation Proclamation had freed them almost two and a half years earlier and the American Civil War had ended with the defeat of the Confederate States in April, Texas was the most remote of the slave states, with a low presence of Union troops, so enforcement of the proclamation had been slow and inconsistent. A common misconception is that this day marks the end of slavery in the US. Although this day marks the emancipation of all slaves in the Confederacy, the institution of slavery was still legal and existed in the Union border states after June 19, 1865. Slavery in the US did not officially end until the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the US on December 6, 1865, which abolished slavery in all of the US and its territories. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Today the focus is on sacrifice, freedom, and democracy! We must keep the memory of D-Day Alive. The U.S. landing in Normandy was a critical moment in the defense of democratic values against totalitarian regimes. It symbolized America's commitment to preserving democracy not only at home but also abroad. The bravery and sacrifice shown by young soldiers on D-Day serve as an inspiration for future generations about the importance of defending democratic values. I am committed to preserving our freedoms here and abroad. #DDay #80thanniversary #normandy #OVERLORD #france #lestweforget #democracy #freedom See less

𝗧𝗥𝗨𝗘 𝗢𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗢𝗡: In the shadows of its supposed egalitarian ideals, the Labor Party now proudly aligns with oppressive regimes and Zionist ambitions of genocide in Palestine. This betrayal of democratic values silences dissent and prioritises military might over the well-being of its citizens, echoing Australia’s colonial origins and foretelling a troubling descent into authoritarianism.

On this 90th anniversary of the Indian Reorganization Act (IRA), we must acknowledge the Tribal neocolonialism created and fostered by that federal law. As Nick Estes explains, the IRA caused Tribal governments to “a winner-takes-all” system that “turned relatives against each other” and “broke down the family kinship unit that . . . was fundamental to decision making” in Indigenous societies. Tribal neocolonialism has emerged under the IRA, with tribal politicians perpetuating modes of Indigenous kinship destruction pioneered by settlers centuries ago. Per-capita fueled tribal disenrollment and enrollment moratoria, rooted in IRA constitutions, exemplify those assimilative forces. Ninety years later, the IRA requires a genuinely Indigenous response. For example, Alan Parker urged the amendment of IRA constitutions to reestablish citizenship “rules” that “rely on traditional concepts of belonging” and “focus on the goal that there will be future generations.” There is much work to be done.
Ninety years ago, President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Indian Reorganization Act, promoting Tribal self-governance and the revitalization of culture across Indian Country. This piece of legislation reversed Federal Indian policy aimed at assimilation and officially ended allotment. Under the Reorganization Act, Tribal Nations were encouraged to establish their own governmental bodies and ways to govern their members. 🎉 👉https://lnkd.in/em8KmAVN #IndianReorganizationAct #anniversary #NativeAmerican

This is a serious inquiry. How many atrocities has Israel committed against the Palestinians in the last 75 years? How many dead? How many were children, women, the elderly? Do you have their names and pictures...or were these records of them destroyed along with their lives? Would you please explain why the Palestinians have been put in an open air concentration camp in Gaza? And why Israel has the right to cut off food, water, electricty and gas to civilian populations that are mostly children before bombing their homes into rubble and killing thousands of them? And how exactly is the mass murder of children included in Israeli's "right to defend itself"? Any why did the Israeli Defense Minister described them as "human animals" using dehumanization speech typcial of genocidal regimes in the past? How does this not imply that Israeli is conducting an ethnic cleansing operation? I am sure that it is not just me, but much of the world would like the answers to these questions, especially considering that Israel only got 14 votes of support out of a possible 193 in the recent UN General Assembly resolution on the situation in Gaza.

NEVER AGAIN Article excerpts: "Israel's ambassador to the UN displayed a yellow star reminiscent of Holocaust victims on his chest Monday, provocatively pledging to wear the badge until members of the Security Council condemn Hamas atrocities." Ambassador Erdan: "The UN Secretary General, who shows understanding for the campaign of mass murder of children, women, and the elderly, is not fit to lead the UN. I call on him to resign immediately. There is no justification or point in talking to those who show compassion for the most terrible atrocities committed against the citizens of Israel and the Jewish people."

If you stand against racism. If you stand against discrimination. If you stand for human rights. Do not be fooled. What you see today is not support for the many innocent people in Gaza who are suffering. What you see today is not support for Israelis and Arabs to live in peace together. What you see is support for Hamas. Terrorists who do not believe in the most basic human rights. Who do not believe in freedom. Hamas terrorists who began this war in the most disgusting way imaginable. Hamas terrorists who shoot at their own people trying to flee a war zone. Hamas terrorists who are not tolerant of the many misguided individuals who are yelling for them around the world. What you see today is hate-fueled antisemitism. It is a catchy slogan- “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” But please take a moment to note, this is not a chant for a two-state solution. It is not a chant for peace. It is not a chant for Jews and Arabs living side by side. It is a chant for the eradication of Jews from Israel. Because they are Jewish. Under this vision- can the Israeli Arabs stay? Would they only deport the millions of Jews currently in Israel? Where do you want them to go?? The Nazi propaganda arm was widely recognized as an integral part of the facilitation of the Holocaust. This WSJ video highlights some of the similarities we are seeing today as well as the shocking differences- these acts were videotaped and publicized by the very Hamas terrorists committing war crimes against civilians. Today, the stories of hate and intimidation directed at American Jews, European Jews, Canadian Jews and beyond, are increasing by the minute. So I had to write this post and share this short video to warn the good-hearted and well-meaning individuals who believe they are supporting human rights by supporting Hamas and by hating “Zionists”. When a sign says “No Zionists Allowed” don’t be fooled. When a sign shows an Israeli flag in the trash and says keep the world clean. Don’t be fooled. When members of NYC mom groups asking each other - is it safe to wear a Jewish star? When kids in college are deprived of their right to attend classes without harassment or discrimination. This is antisemitism. Jews do not feel safe. Reach out to your Jewish friends and colleagues.
