Quantinuum reveals the first “on-premise” deployment of its highest-performing H1-Series ion trap quantum computing technology, at a purpose-built facility at RIKEN in Japan. 👏 Access to Quantinuum’s world-leading System Model H1 (learn more the machine: https://lnkd.in/euJW2CY2) is part of the RIKEN’s pioneering project to demonstrate the advantages of hybrid computational platforms for deployment as services in the future post-5G era. RIKEN is developing a hybrid quantum-HPC platform combining the unique capabilities of the System Model H1 with the world leading Fugaku supercomputer. This deployment will allow for hybrid quantum-classical supercomputing and will support a large-scale software research program in which RIKEN, together with collaborators SoftBank, The University of Tokyo and Osaka University will work with Quantinuum to develop software tools and applications that integrate quantum and classical supercomputers most effectively.

We are pleased to share that the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) will house our 5-qubit quantum system, IQM Spark. The system will be operational in July 2024 as part of Jülich’s JUNIQ quantum computing infrastructure and will be connected to JSC’s classical supercomputers. This gives researchers the opportunity to investigate how calculations on classical supercomputers can be accelerated by quantum computers. Through the JUNIQ platform, JSC is providing science and industry in Germany and Europe with access to state-of-the-art quantum computers. IQM’s Spark system has numerous expansion and connection possibilities, making it a perfect fit for Jülich’s JUNIQ concept. “The most advanced quantum algorithms, which are used, for example, to solve optimisation problems, require a close coupling of quantum computers and classical supercomputers. The IQM pilot system makes it possible to integrate a freely programmable, gate-based quantum computer into the modular Jülich supercomputing infrastructure at a very early stage in order to gain groundbreaking experience in hybrid quantum computing,” explains Prof. Kristel Michielsen, Head of the Jülich quantum computing infrastructure JUNIQ and the Quantum Information Processing Research group at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC). “JSC deploying our system to their premises is pivotal in our journey as we continue to drive large-scale commercial quantum adoption for businesses, academia, and research institutions worldwide.
