Dubai art auction raises Dh600,000 for Dubai Cares Program in India Dubai: As much as Dh600,000 was raised at the second Art be a Part auction, featuring artwork from around the world, including ‘Give’, a sculpture by Italian artist Lorenzo Quinn, son of Hollywood star Anthony Quinn, which was sold for Dh360,000. The proceeds will be used for an art-based education program for underprivileged children in India, by UNICEF in partnership with Dubai Cares, part of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), according to Medha Nanda, Founder of Art be a Part. An artist herself, Nanda said, “This pioneering education program will benefit children from across India, including children of determination, and those living in remote areas. We are delighted to be supporting this program by UNICEF and Dubai Cares, which crucially addresses the most vitally important requirements of underprivileged children in India, particularly those from marginalized communities. As a community dedicated to supporting humanitarian causes, our priority is to provide help where it is needed most urgently. It is especially satisfying that this program will use art as a key part of the education process.” The second Art be a Part exhibition featured artists from the UAE, Italy, India, Chile, Iran, Japan, Ecuador, South Africa, Germany, Italy, US, Ukraine, Spain, Singapore and Mexico. I first realised the sheer scale of what all the uae has to offer in terms of art when I was involved in a little project relating to this area. Nothing came of it but the research showed that there’s a serious bludgeoning of art history, production, valuation, purchase, appreciation, creation etc here. So much so that whilst this article does a fair survey of what’s available in the area of contemporary art, it misses some serious art institutions such as the Manarat al Saadiyat (do check it out for their great Italian restaurant), the New York University Abu Dhabi works and also the fascinating works at Louvre Abu Dhabi There are four museums being constructed at the same time in Abu Dhabi. The National Zayed Museum, the Guggenheim Museum, the Creative centre, and the Natural Historh Museum. And most other UAE emirates are developing hugely as well. Culture vultures have a great place to roost. Boudoir soirées now? Whilst Abu Dhabi has been well described as the Capital of Capital, I don’t think it would be wrong to describe it as a fairly large chunky Capital of Art and Culture either. In a tiny concentrated place, you can do international diplomacy, military, university education, financial services, giant pools of capital, extremely safe, safe and wonderful family living in great urban communities, great shopping, giant entertainment options with perhaps the largest number of concentrated amusement parks outside Florida, museums - art - culture - history, philanthropy and guess what? Most don’t even realise this. Quietly, discreetly, the place to be in. Read and wonder. #abudhabi

It's annual report season with National Gallery Singapore publishing its numbers hot on the heels of the Esplanade's report last week. Both annual reports offer good and bad news. Visitorship is healthy, rebounding almost to pre-pandemic levels and rental income for both institutions are back up. But there is cause for worry too as both cash and in-kind donations are slipping. However much these two institutions tighten their belts, there is no getting around the costs of running not just enormous infrastructure but also the increasing number of "free" programmes. Arts has always, and will always be, dependent on the kindness of strangers. Patronage is an essential part of the arts and with uncertain economic winds, it is understandable that sponsors will tighten their belts. But it's not just the wealthy who can give to the arts. Every cent counts and even small donations can help. #supportlocalart

Colors of Humanity Art Gallery - "Water" 2024 Call for Entry - Online Art Show - THEME- "WATER" covers 71% of the Earth's surface and is vital for all known forms of life. 96.5% of the Earth's crust water is found in seas and oceans. Although the sea moderates the Earth's climate and has important roles in the water, carbon, and nitrogen cycles, it is often viewed for its beauty, power, and life. We would like to see your interpretation of water. PAY IT FORWARD- We will be donating 10% of all entry fees from this show to The Water Project. The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing sustainable water projects to communities in sub-Saharan Africa who suffer needlessly from a lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation.
