I had a great time at the Bloomberg Tech conference in SF. So many great speakers and leaders. The videos are up. #BloombergTech I particularly enjoyed: - Vinod Khosla’s View on the Global Race in AI - AI Generated & Human Hoffman Talk Tech (Reid Hoffman) - Xbox President Bond on the Gamer’s Future - And this one is just fun! Love how May talks about how the real value in AI lies in the context and workflow customization rather than in the foundational models. A great interview.

In a recent conversation with Schwab Network at the NYSE, our President and Executive Board Member, Sudhir Chaturvedi, spoke on the remarkable surge of organizations adopting #GenAI. Contact centers have become pivotal hubs for enhancing customer experiences and driving revenue within the financial services and banking sectors. Instead of replacing agents, generative AI can be a potent ally. Integrating AI with human expertise empowers teams to swiftly address customer issues and deliver exceptional experiences. Founder, consultant, technologist. Currently building isAI - a system to promote AI legal conformance. Consulting on AI investment strategies (hype avoidance, value identification...) and system architectures.
A week after the #EU published its draft #AI Act, it's evident that big tech is struggling with getting trust and inclusion issues right, routinely. Why? Go to minute 18 in this excellent edition of #bloomberg Technology and listen as Sinduja Rangarajan describes #Nvidia's challenges around #inclusion and the #facialrecognition. Facial recognition has bugged the AI industry for years. However, in my mind it's not difficult to get right from a physics and computing perspective. At a somewhat simplified level you do this: 1️⃣ Have a big facial dataset, which is in fact biased - it's biased to those skin types that are less represented in the local population. This reduces the error rate when the trained system encounters samples that would otherwise have low certainty. 2️⃣ If the spectral reflectometry of skin is challenging, change the frequency response of the optical sensors. When facial recognition is permitted, is another issue. The EU Act covers this well. My second big trust issue over the last few days occurs in the FT article, cited in the comments below. It appears that, in the face of regulatory scrutiny, #OpenAI has clarified its ownership structure: #Microsoft owns nothing; no equity. However, according to the FT article (link in comments) it has not changed the date stamp associated with this documentation, so it looks as if it has always been open on this ownership issue. The point is this: if we are to trust the big tech AI industry, it's going to have to get a lot better at managing these "details". After decades in the tech industry, I am amazed that it hasn't got the hang of this. You can take two views of all this inclusion stuff. You can regard it as sociologist-leftwing-liberal meddling. Alternatively, think about it in the context of value-creation and value-at-risk. I like the value-at-risk thinking. Corporations have to reduce the value-at-risk around these issues or risk share price corrections. Sinduja Rangarajan, Maria Santacaterina, Madhumita Murgia https://lnkd.in/eycEPYTK

This is a video made by Dr. Angela Collier, who is a physicist. She has made this fifty-three-minute-long video that discusses the empty AI-related promises of Eric Yuan, the CEO of Zoom. When Yuan is asked to explain how difficult computer-related problems are going to be solved in order for his business to deliver on his (internally inconsistent, bullshit) business promises, Yuan says "it's down the stack". This is not an explanation, and the fact of its not being an explanation is the focus of Dr. Collier's video. In these last few decades of widespread human occupation of this planet, why not dedicate ourselves to calling out bullshit and recognizing others who call out bullshit? https://lnkd.in/g8X73hN7
