Working with accountants, I love this time of year. It is the period where firm owners will emerge from a very busy time and have the headspace to think about what they want to do differently. Most will be working on some sort of project or initiative to fix a problem or create an opportunity and for many the answer will be technology related. Having worked in this space for a while I have seen many projects or initiatives go very well but also some that fail miserably. Below are the top 5 reasons behind those failures - assuming the right choice was made. If you are going through this thought process right now I strongly recommend you make sure you are not going to fall into any of these traps: 1) Lack of alignment/involvement from stakeholders at the top of the firm 2) Poor communication of the reasons for the change 3) Tech champion(s) not empowered with autonomy or time 4) An unwillingness to mandate process change 5) Lack of a plan - scope, milestones, upskilling, prioritisation of tasks If you are working in partnership with a tech vendor, they should want to discuss this stuff too - and those with experience will have some great advice for you to tap into.

Most early-stage companies struggle with tight profit margins. Here's why: -They lack the resources to develop a new revenue model -Many early-stage companies charge based on hours and materials. -They compete on price to win customers, which hinders margin potential Here are 3 ways an early-stage company can improve its gross margins: 1. Change how you charge for services → Explore different pricing models → This includes retainers, success fees, subscriptions, royalties, or licenses. Changing how services are charged can significantly impact gross margins. 2. Change how you allocate labor → Delegate routine tasks to lower-level staff to free up more skilled employees. 3. Consider offshoring more routine tasks. →You can take advantage of lower labor costs by sending certain tasks offshore. →This comes with some additional risk, so it requires a level of expertise. These 3 options can directly improve your gross margins over time. By assessing revenue models and cost structures, CEOs can achieve exponential growth in gross margins over time.

Embarking on the path to becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA) is a challenging yet rewarding journey. A pivotal moment in this expedition is the 15-day orientation course, an experience that shapes the mindset and skills of aspiring CAs. The journey begins with anticipation and eagerness as CA students gather for the orientation course. The first day is often a mix of excitement and nerves, with new faces and a sense of the unknown. As the days unfold, participants are immersed in a diverse range of activities designed to go beyond the theoretical realm of textbooks. The course breaks away from traditional classroom learning, opting for experiential activities that mirror real-world scenarios. Practical exposure becomes the cornerstone as students delve into case studies, discussions, and simulations. This hands-on approach transforms theoretical knowledge into applicable skills, bridging the gap between academia and the professional world. One of the key elements of the orientation course is the emphasis on networking. Students interact with industry professionals, fellow aspirants, and seasoned CAs. This not only broadens their perspective but also lays the foundation for future professional connections. The course fosters a sense of camaraderie among participants, creating a supportive network that extends beyond the 15 days. The activities are not merely about learning accounting principles; they also instill the importance of a positive attitude and resilience in the face of challenges. The trainers, often seasoned professionals themselves, share personal anecdotes and insights, providing valuable lessons that go beyond the curriculum. A memorable aspect of the orientation course is the mantra of success: "Have the ability to do something to achieve success." This phrase echoes in the minds of students, motivating them to approach their studies and future career with determination and a proactive mindset. As the 15 days progress, a noticeable transformation occurs among the participants. The orientation course not only equips them with technical skills but also molds their character. Many students find themselves evolving into more confident, resilient individuals ready to face the demanding path that lies ahead. In conclusion, the 15-day orientation course for CA students is a transformative experience. It goes beyond the realms of textbooks, providing practical exposure, fostering networking opportunities, and instilling a positive attitude. This immersive journey sets the stage for a successful career as a Chartered Accountant, leaving participants not only with knowledge but also with a newfound confidence and a supportive professional network. 2 / 2 Message ChatGPT…
