Command and Control Nodes Unite the Indo-Pacific Region - AFCEA International "U.S. Army leaders in the Indo-Pacific are calling successful the implementation of game-changing distributed command and control networks (C2) in the region that are uniting crucial operations, sustainment and medical support. The Army’s I Corp implemented for the first time the distributed C2 communications node concept during the Talisman Sabre exercise, held in Australia from July 22 to August 4. The exercise involved 17 allies and partners, included the Five Eyes Nations (United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, the United States and Australia) along with France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Papua New Guinea, Tonga and other nations, as well as 30,000 U.S. Joint warfighters." At Calian Group, we integrate the latest lessons learned into scenario development to deliver the most realistic training experience possible. This means training for challenging scenarios like competing in contested air space, meeting sustainment and logistics challenges including ammunition and supply shortages, and overcoming network and information operations. All of these challenges test C2 and C4ISR networks including developing and maintaining situational awareness, responding to surprise and enabling decision-making across the combined-arms team. Between this AFWERX push and the work DEFCON AI is doing in contested logistics AI.. The DAF is getting serious on the challenge of Agile Ops. Who wants to talk about doing hard things at the tactical edge? Should be a really good AFA topic in September.
Part Two of the AFWERX Expedient Basing Challenge is now open for submissions! The United States Air Force is looking to modernize capabilities to establish distributed operations in hostile environments around the world. Part two of the challenge will focus on deploying base infrastructure, assessing damages, and developing a recovery strategy in order to significantly reduce response times. Solutions should enable a lighter lift and leaner footprint for the USAF. If you’d like to be at the forefront of solving significant and complex problems for the DAF, learn more and submit your solution here: https://lnkd.in/gb9WmKh8 . . . #AFWERXChallenge #InnovativeAF #AFWERX #USAF #Airmen

Creating Strategic Emergence | PhD in Political Science | Senior Professor Strategic Leadership Studies
I can't say I fault the authors on this one. It is merely a reflection of the lack of connective tissue between grand visions of security strategy and operational level strategic planning. The authors at MAJCOM levels are left with the options of what you see here or stepping on the toes of strategic planners by issuing more specific guidance. I personally, favor a different approach -- one where we offer our operational levels strategic options to develop and plan to, versus grand concepts to either parrot or decipher.

#TransformingOrganizations I want to read something positive into this #strategy released by Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) today. I just can't. For leaders, strategists, and communicators, this is a negative example. Don't do this. This strategy is full of platitudes and aspirations. The graphics are great, but the words don't convey meaning. I can't figure out what anyone in Pacific Air Forces would do different after reading this (and I led the 8th Fighter Wing in PACAF) Did PACAF #Airmen need a strategy to tell them to work with allies and partners, or defend the homeland, or deter aggression? If they did, we should be worried. It identifies "operational priorities," but the priorities are defined so broadly that they cannot be used to guide decision making. Worse, I am very familiar with the #NationalDefense Strategy and National Military Strategy. Both of these offer critical guidance and set real priorities (and were largely influenced by Airmen). This PACAF strategy obscures those documents, and has the bureaucratic effect of muddying the water. I think this is a symptom of why SECAF is calling for a study that proposes changes to the organization of the force. It indicates a Major Command staff that is duplicating work done at the highest levels of #DoD (and by the staff of the Combatant Commander). I think this an indicator that we need to reconsider having regional Major Commands. Maybe I'm wrong...if you see goodness in this, I would love to hear your thoughts.

The evolving dynamics of global air power increasingly spotlight the contrast between the U.S. Air Force's aging fleet and China's rapidly modernizing aerial might. 🌏✈️ Recent analyses shed light on fleet composition similarities between Russian Aerospace Forces and the U.S. Air Force. Over 50% of VKS tactical airframes are more than 30 years old. The USAF doesn't score much better, only dipping to 29.1 years with recent acquisitions such as the KC-46. With the U.S. Air Force grappling with fleets that include airframes over five decades old, such as the B-52 and KC-135, the urgency for modernization becomes even more pronounced. This strategic landscape highlights the critical need for the U.S. to not only update its fleet but also innovate, ensuring readiness against peer adversaries like China. The interplay of aging U.S. assets against China's burgeoning air capabilities accentuates the essence of the great power competition. This scenario mandates a forward-looking approach to U.S. military readiness, emphasizing the importance of technological advancements and strategic foresight to maintain global air superiority in the 21st century. #AirForce #MilitaryModernization #GreatPowerCompetition #NationalSecurity #USAF #China #Russia Source: https://lnkd.in/g3MEbQJ3, The National Interest
