What did you just think about? An elephant, right? Of course you did because your brain can’t comprehend the negative. Actually, we typically reinforce things when we put them into the negative. If you want to positively impact your outcome, convert things into the affirmative. What you should think:  Skate hard.  Hit the net.  Make plays. What you shouldn’t think:  Don’t be slow  Don’t miss the net  Don’t over pass the puck Imagine that you’re a skier skiing through a bunch of trees. If you keep telling yourself not to hit a tree…you’ll only focus on all the trees. What you should tell yourself is “follow the path”. If you focus on obstacles, all you’ll see are obstacles. I know basketball is on many brains right now, but I have my sights set on the Summer Olympics! Many don't know, but I was a competitive swimmer for about 13 years and made it to the Junior Olympics. My strokes were butterfly and breaststroke, and today, I still can't get enough of the water. That's why I was intrigued by this post about "Swimming World." It was acquired last month by H2MEDIA, which has revamped the publication into a digital platform comprised of audio, video, podcast, and more to help subscribers engage with the brand. But it's not all digital. The oldest periodical in aquatic sports reappeared in February with a 76-page print edition with special binding and high-quality paper. If you have a product or service that is loved by many but has lost some of its luster, perhaps the packaging and delivery channels are lacking. 2023 by the numbers 1 - baseball game 1 - day skiing (too low) 1 - conference (Future Proof!) 2 - weddings (and bachelor parties) 3 - video games played 3 - days at theme parks (2 Disney, 1 Six Flags) 4 - UCLA basketball games 5 - concerts 13 - seasons of a TV show watched 18 - new clients 26 - books read 52 - days surfing 100+ - times played basketball (estimate) 150+ - workouts (estimate) 153 - movies watched (47 new movies) --- I have a wall calendar hanging next to my desk. It's fun to write down events as they happen (or record them in a spreadsheet) and then look back at the year. I forget so many great things that happened! What were some highlights for 2023?
