Happy 25th Birthday Google. It's come a long way in a quarter of a century, and it's hard to argue against the search giant having achieved its aim 'to organise the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful'. Google has helped to change the world's culture. But did it stick to its original motto of 'don't be evil'? It's an interesting time for search, and while Google still dominates, it will face challenges in the next 5 years, from AI, to changing regulations and diversifying competition. https://lnkd.in/dYC8mEgA

Over the years, it’s lived through so many transitions and iterations! People are avoiding AI Overviews! Even creating a Search Engine out of it! By now we all are aware of the AI Overviews of Google. It's pretty infuriating how Google suddenly freaked out and started rolling out this. (They obviously didn't think this through) People have developed techniques to avoid AI Overviews altogether! &udm=14 is one of the examples. It's basically Google but with No AI Overviews. It helps relive the memories of when Google was "helpful" Here's a link to how it works https://lnkd.in/dEWYa-5F Also I'm pretty curious how Google is able to take advantage of "People's" content, use it in their AI Overviews and just provide links in such a way that obviously decreases the CTR of websites. Curious as to why Google has been a bit slow rolling out new AI features? Look no further than this chart right here. The more Search becomes a "Zero Click" experience, the smaller that number on the left gets. So in order for Google to continue to dominate as *the* search provider of the future, they're going to have to sacrifice, at least to a degree, what they've always done. Not an easy task. In fact, history is full of examples of companies (Kodak, Blockbuster, etc.) that dominated an industry only to watch it all slip away due to a desire to protect a previous business model. Regardless of what happens next with Google, I can assure you future business text books will have chapters dedicated to whatever it is we observe over these next five years. Such interesting times ahead.

How Google plans to improve velocity and execution ? Everyone admires Google. They have great product , they have search. But there has also been some allegations of being slow. CEO sundar Pichai addressed that in his earnings call. What was good to note that unlike a lot of other companies Google tried to take a broader approach to this ( on paper). 1️⃣ They reorged to bring together teams in an area. ML infrastructure and ML developer teams, All the search teams, Platforms and Devices teams. But given their size this is mainly at VP / SVP levels alignment. 2️⃣ Reduced infrastructure cost by technical and procurement efficiencies. 3️⃣ Manage headcount growth and align teams with the highest priority areas 4️⃣ Building world-leading infrastructure that is high-performing, secure, reliable and efficient. This is actually costing short term increases in capital expenditures 5️⃣ Investing In building platforms and tools that accelerate internal product development over time. Happy Birthday Google! 🎂 Coincidentally, I started two days of training on Google Cloud Digital Leadership today. Machine Learning, incl Duet AI and Vertex AI will have unbelievable benefits for marketing and creative teams. The possibilities are hard to wrap your head around! Just as one example Imagen, the picture generating text-to-image model, includes image editing capabilities, digital watermarking and the ability to mimic company brand and creative guidelines... using just 10 training images 🤯🤯🤯 My biggest takeaway from today though? Access to high volumes of training data is the foundation of any Machine Learning so it is EVEN MORE critical for us to understand data sources, quality, ownership and usage. #GenerativeAI #GoogleCloud #CreativeAI

"As Google celebrates its 25th birthday, we're reflecting on the technological advancements behind our most helpful products, and the opportunity ahead. One thing that’ll never change, according to CEO Sundar Pichai: Our healthy disregard for the impossible and a desire to keep asking big questions. “Our search for answers,” he writes, “will drive extraordinary technology progress over the next 25 years.” Google will only become more intelligent in terms of displaying better search results, aligned and optimised for search intent and those businesses that emphasise content and user experience will always have the best chances of dominating the search results for a period of time. AI will provide a smarter way to detect manipulation, spam, and the negative but creative blackhat strategies. Still behind, I mean some of the sites that rank are a joke but it is getting better. AI will reduce our time in micro execution and focus more on the macro top level strategy limited by our own imagination and desire to be first! To answer your question, I love when Google becomes smarter, my clients only go up! I am begging for change (if the change assumes the above). Always ask yourself what we can do better? How do we become visionaries? How do we dare to rewrite the status quo? Those who dare to be crazy enough to change (or disrupt) an industry, often have the ambition, will and fortitude to achieve the impossible...
