Thanks to numerous OTT platforms, the words streaming media have become second nature to us and we’ve been able to view some of the most promising regional and global content in the confines of our own homes. But have you ever wondered what the term ‘streaming media’ entails? Audio or video content that’s compressed and shared over the internet is referred to as streaming media. While the process is in progress, content is retrieved from a remote location over a wired or wireless network, and shown on the user’s device. Interestingly, the ongoing flow (stream) of data enables users to watch content in real-time (or almost real-time) and saves them the trouble of downloading it on their devices! Relecura’s TechTracker has generated a technology landscape report around streaming media that includes data on its publication types, top geographies, top technologies, emerging companies, and a host of other information. Take a look! https://lnkd.in/g8WjwgJB #streamingmedia #audioandvideocontent #internet #usersdevice #technologylansdcapereport #techtracker #relecura

The growth of FAST in US suggests we might be going back to the old model. Ads based platforms focusing on accessible, easy watching content for the wider demographic while subscription based products focusing on premium content to justify the extra cost to the viewer. The only question remains - is there enough money in the advertising market for the FAST's to take dominant role in the market akin to the old TV model.
This month's edition of Nielsen's The Gauge has two notable developments: 1. Broadcast 𝙉𝘿 Cable is now back at over 50% (50.6%) to be exact, while streaming is back down to 38.3% thus negating all those headlines from last month that proclaimed that linear now makes up "less than half of all viewing." 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗧𝗩𝗥𝗘𝗩 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘: That number is going to go back and forth across the 50 percent line for the next year or two. The real shift will happen when streaming gets close to 50%. Right now that additional 10%-15% is taken up by "Other" a category that includes DVDs, gaming and listening to Spotify. 2. Tubi is beating out Max, Peacock and Paramount+, with The Roku Channel and Pluto TV not far behind. They're all lumped in between 0.9% and 1.3% of viewing so not a whole lot of difference. 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗧𝗩𝗥𝗘𝗩 𝗧𝗔𝗞𝗘: If we had to guess, we'd say that right now people are watching specific series on Max, Peacock and Paramount+ and doing their lean-back viewing on the FASTs. There is also, as per out new report on Local TV and Streaming, a whole lot of local news moving to the FASTs, especially in areas not served by the networks' O&Os. So there's that too. https://lnkd.in/eGerYkrn

🌐 HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) 🌐 HLS or HTTP Live Streaming, 📡 is a widely used protocol for streaming media content over the internet. It breaks the content into smaller segments, 🎞️ which are then delivered to viewers through standard web servers. This allows for adaptive bitrate streaming, 📶 meaning the quality of the stream can adjust based on the viewer's internet connection speed and device capabilities. HLS has become popular for delivering live and on-demand video content 🎥 across a variety of platforms, including websites, mobile apps, and smart TVs. It's supported by most modern web browsers and streaming media players, making it a versatile choice for content providers. Overall, HLS plays a significant role in the modern landscape of online video streaming, 🌐 offering reliability and flexibility for delivering high-quality viewing experiences to audiences worldwide. #Streaming #HLS #MediaStreaming #letsconnect #sivaexclusive #network #media #livebox #video #MediaServer #StreamingProtocols #Tech #Networking #LiveStreaming #VideoOnDemand #TechTips

The platform is the power position in today’s entertainment market – like the position the cable providers held for decades in controlling the cable box and the content that went into through it. Now, consumers access content primarily through their smart TV or streaming media player, and the platform that is powering those connected TVs is in control.
