Jobseekers, you should avoid mentioning the details below on your resume. 1. Address Details 2. Photo 3. Tables 4. Skill rating bars 5. Gender 6. Marital Status 7. Date of Birth Address Details: Don't give your exact home address on your resume. It's safer to mention just the city or area. Photo of Yours: Skip putting your photo on the resume. It's not needed for job applications, and it can create biases. Avoid Using Tables: Keep it simple. Some computer systems (ATS) might not read tables well, so it's better to use a straightforward format. Skill Rating Bars: Instead of using bars to rate your skills, just list them. Ratings can be subjective and not very clear. Gender: Don't mention your gender. Employers should focus on your abilities and experience, not personal details like this and sometimes it may lead to biases. Marital Status: Personal relationships have no impact on job performance. Avoid including marital status to maintain professionalism. Date of Birth: Age is irrelevant; focus on showcasing your skills and experience. I reviewed 80+ applications yesterday for a current role and narrowed it down to 22 people to invite for an initial interview. There were 25 others who were qualified as well. Recruiting can seem like a mystery so I hope to share my experiences to shed some light on my processes at least. I recently have added the question: “Is there anything else you’d like to explain or share about your application?” While yes this could be buried in a form cover letter, it’s so much easier for candidates to have 2-4 short answers than a cover letter (100% team ban the cover letter). I have gotten some great responses! It gives people the space to share about: 😷Caregiving for sick family members 👶🏻Stay at home parenting 🙌Tranferable skills that might not be immediately apparent ✅An extra role not on the resume but useful to share And it lets them know this is still a human process. 💕 #human #empathy #recruiting #imhiring #hiring #recruiter #compassion #coverletters #questions #returntowork #sahm #caregiving
