In anticipation of #NationalRecyclingDay, we made a special appearance at The Meteor's Meet the Moment Summit, hosted by the Brooklyn Museum. Empowered by the inspiring conversation between comedian Ilana Glazer and marine biologist Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson on the transformative power of climate optimism, we encouraged attendees to take a small but impactful step towards environmental protection by calling Governor Hochul of New York to voice their support for the passage of New York's Bigger Better Bottle Bill. Advocating for a bigger, better Bottle Bill is a pivotal initiative for reducing plastic waste and fostering a circular economy, a cause we wholeheartedly support. As firm believers that possibility and joy can effectively combat the paralysis that many of us experience in these urgent climate times, we urge you to take one simple action today to make the world a better place in celebration of National Recycling Day. ♻

In a world where environmental challenges loom large, heroes emerge, armed not with capes, but with innovation and determination. Boyan Slat stands tall among these modern-day champions, a visionary on a mission to rid our oceans of plastic pollution. Slat's journey began in his teenage years when he was struck by the enormity of plastic waste plaguing our seas. Rather than succumbing to despair, he embarked on a quest to find a solution. The result? The Ocean Cleanup is a groundbreaking initiative that harnesses technology to rid the oceans of plastic debris. At the heart of Slat's innovation lies simplicity and efficiency. His system, consisting of floating barriers that passively capture plastic as ocean currents move through them, offers a scalable and cost-effective approach to cleaning up our seas. It's a testament to his belief that technology when wielded with purpose, can be a powerful force for good. But Slat's impact extends beyond his innovative solutions. He has sparked a global conversation about the urgent need to address plastic pollution and galvanized a new wave of environmental activism. His unwavering commitment to preserving our oceans serves as an inspiration to us all, reminding us that each individual has the power to effect meaningful change. As we celebrate Boyan Slat and his extraordinary contributions, let us also heed his call to action. Let us commit to protecting our oceans, not just for ourselves, but for future generations. In the words of Slat himself, "The ocean is our life support system. If we can't clean this up, who can?"
