Airbus is bolstering its commitment to sustainable aviation with the inauguration of a ZEROe Development Centre (ZEDC) for hydrogen technologies at its Stade facility. The center aims to accelerate the advancement of composite hydrogen-system technologies, primarily concentrating on cryogenic liquid hydrogen storage and distribution.
As a longstanding pioneer in composite materials and manufacturing processes in Germany, Airbus aims to spearhead the development of cost-competitive lightweight hydrogen systems, including cryogenic hydrogen tanks, made from composite materials. The ZEDC in Stade will work collaboratively with other Airbus entities nationwide.
Supported by public funding sources, including LuFo and Lower Saxony funding, the center will also establish connections with the planned Innovation and Technology Center Hydrogen (ITZ) in Northern Germany, contributing to the decarbonization of the aviation industry.
This ZEDC in Stade is a pivotal addition to Airbus' global network of development centers committed to realizing hydrogen-powered aircraft by 2035, aligning with the company's sustainability vision.
