DEI is not just a buzzword—it’s a commitment to building a better, more compassionate world. How?
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) are three closely linked values held by many brands that are working to be supportive of different groups of individuals, including people of different races, ethnicities, religions, abilities, genders, and sexual orientations. These essential values strive to embodied by brands in order to meet the needs of people from all walks of life.
Let's break it down:
DIVERSITY: Refers to who is represented in the workforce. It encompasses various dimensions, including:
1. Gender diversity: The composition of men, women, and nonbinary individuals.
2. Age diversity: Whether there’s a mix of ages or mostly one generation.
3. Ethnic diversity: Whether people share common national or cultural traditions or represent different backgrounds.
4. Physical ability and neurodiversity: Accounting for perspectives of people with disabilities, whether apparent or not.
EQUITY: Focuses on fair treatment for all individuals. Unlike equality, which assumes that everyone should be treated the same, equity considers a person’s unique circumstances. It adjusts treatment to ensure that opportunities and outcomes are not predicted by identity.
INCLUSION: Involves creating an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and included. It goes beyond mere representation and actively fosters a sense of belonging.
Brands that are diverse, equitable, and inclusive are better able to respond to challenges, win top talent, and meet and serve the needs of different customer bases. With DEI in mind, companies are considering how to better support employees. Over the past few years, many organizations have taken strides to build diversity, equity, and inclusion into their policies and hiring practices.
And such initiatives play a crucial role in hoping both Brand's Identity and its Success. "How you DEI?"
