March is Women's History Month, what better way to celebrate then by highlighting the incredible women that make up the department of Public Safety. Today we sat down with Peggyrose Dowd, Peggyrose is the Community Engagement Coordinator for the Department of Public Safety. We asked her a few questions about what it is like working in Public Safety. 1.) How many years have you been in public safety? - 4 years. One year as the Community Engagement Coordinator and three as the recruiter at the Charleston County Consolidated Emergency Communications Center. 2.) What made you join public safety? - Growing up in a family of firefighters shaped my perspective on public safety and community service. It's more than just a job or career; it's an honor to serve others during their toughest moments. Knowing that you have the ability to offer help and support on someone's roughest day is a responsibility I carry with pride and dedication. The values instilled in me by my family continue to guide me towards making a positive impact in the world. 3.) What does it mean to you being a woman in the public safety world? - As a woman in the world of public safety, I am deeply honored to work alongside dedicated women from all six departments. The opportunity to learn and grow with them is invaluable. I strive to absorb their knowledge and experiences, passing on this wisdom to empower fellow female professionals entering this field. Together, we stand strong, breaking barriers and shaping the future of public safety through our collective expertise and resilience. Let's continue to support each other in making a difference every day. 4.) What advice do you have for other women wanting to get into a public safety career? - Embracing a career in Public Safety is more than just serving the community – it's about personal growth and self-improvement. Every day you are challenged to be the best version of yourself, constantly striving for excellence. This profession not only impacts those around you but also transforms you into a stronger, more capable individual. As you dedicate your efforts to making a difference in society, remember that this journey ultimately shapes who you become. I also wouldn't be me if I didn't remind you that you can apply today at www.workfor911.com Thank you Peggyrose for all that you do for Charleston County!

California Public Utilities Commission 21st Annual Supplier Diversity En Banc Recap! Last week, we engaged in a dynamic discussion at the CPUC Annual Supplier Diversity En Banc. Leaders from California’s investor-owned utilities, local government, ethnic Chambers of Commerce, community-based organizations, Community Choice Aggregators, and emerging firms converged to discuss critical supplier diversity programs and contracting opportunities. We’re pleased to commend the top performers of 2022 for their exceptional commitment to diversity in spending. Ranging from 67% to 35% diverse spend, these top performers include Suburban Water Systems, Park & Apple Water, California American Water, and San Jose Water. It’s noteworthy that of the 10 top performers, 4 hail from our water industry, and all 4 are CWA members. A special acknowledgment to California American Water for their unwavering commitment to supplier diversity. They not only met but exceeded the CPUC’s goals for engaging with minority, women, LGBT, and disabled-owned businesses. Their dedication is a true inspiration, evident in their proactive efforts to promote and cultivate relationships with diverse vendors. Through their Supplier Diversity Showcase, they’ve forged pathways to growth, benefiting both their large contractor companies and direct services. Today, diverse businesses constitute approximately 40 percent of their annual operational and capital expenditures. We applaud Suburban Water, Park & Apple Water, California American Water, and San Jose Water for their outstanding leadership in advancing supplier diversity! #SupplierDiversity #Inclusion #DiversityandInclusion #CPUC #SuccessStory #CAWater
