#Samsung’s first 3nm chip, Exynos W1000, goes official with powerful specs Samsung Electronics has finally unveiled its first #3nm #chip, the #Exynos W1000. This powerful chip, made using Samsung's most advanced fabrication process, will likely be used in the #Galaxy Watch 7 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra. The Exynos W1000 has been announced and is made using Samsung Foundry's second-generation 3nm (likely SF3) process. It has a powerful #CPU with five cores: 1x #Cortex-A78 and 4x Cortex-A55. Samsung claims the new CPU offers 2.7x faster app launch times compared to the Exynos W930 and allows faster app switching. Single-core performance is 3.4x faster, while multi-core performance is 3.7x faster. It uses Arm's Mali-G68 MP2 #GPU and can drive screens with resolutions up to 640 x 640 pixels. #Mobile industry is quietly preparing for the biggest change to your #smartphone in a decade — #iSIM will hasten the end of #SIMcards and allow networks to preload plans on devices 💡 The #mobileindustry is poised to undergo a significant transformation in the next two years, with the impending shift to integrated SIMs, or iSIMs, new research has claimed. A new study from Juniper Research predicts a huge increase in the global number of iSIMs installed in connected devices, jumping from 800,000 in 2024 to over 10 million by 2026. An iSIM (also known as the #iUICC - Integrated Universal Integrated Circuit Card) is based on the #eSIM (embedded SIM) form factor and integrated in the device’s #processor, effectively removing the need for a separate SIM module. The iSIM's integration looks likely to propel us towards an era where the traditional SIM card will become obsolete and networks will preload plans onto devices. CVE-2023-36481 – Buffer copy without checking input size during PPP communication in Shannon BaseBand (28th Aug 2023) Preface: Samsung has also used a cheaper and less smart processor, Exynos 9610 with the unit cost of $14.90, for the affordable Galaxy A50 model. Background: Global edition devices instead use EXYNOS - Samsung LSI’s in-house SoC (System on a chip). Shannon co-exists in the SoC floorplan as an IP block. Every phone today that has a SIM card has a baseband processor. Shannon is-a particular implementation of these standards. Remark: When writing Linux kernel driver software for a new SOC, it can be helpful to know the specific IP block (and it's heritage) used in a chip, in order to reuse software from other projects. Vulnerability details: An issue was discovered in Samsung Exynos Mobile Processor and Wearable Processor 9810, 9610, 9820, 980, 850, 1080, 2100, 2200, 1280, 1380, 1330, 9110, and W920. 16GB Capacity eMMC Requires Only Limited Board Space Allocation A new 16GB industrial-grade embedded multi-media card (eMMC) solution has just been unveiled by Alliance Memory. Housed in a 153-ball FBGA package (measuring 11.5mm x 13mm), the ASFC16G31M-51BIN brings together NAND flash memory with an eMMC controller and flash transition layer (FTL) management software. It conforms with the JEDEC eMMC v5.1 standard, and is backwards-compatible with eMMC v4.5 and v5.0. The extended operational temperature range of -40°C to +85°C makes it suitable for industrial and networking implementations, as well as consumer electronics designs (wearables, tablets, digital TVs, set-top boxes, etc.). The key functionality incorporated into this data storage device includes boot operation, replay protected memory block (RPMB), health checking, field firmware updates, power-off notification, write levelling, high-priority interrupt (HPI) and secure trim/erase.
