Free college promises intensify military recruitment crisis Our military is becoming an afterthought to the next generation, stoking a national security crisis By Kate Monroe Fox News In our nation’s past, veterans who have honorably served were rewarded for their service with a variety of benefits, including free college under the GI Bills. Members of the military also were empowered to get their education while actively serving through other programs like military tuition assistance. However, calls today for free college have done more to harm the military than help it. Moreover, given the nation’s historic recruiting crisis, promises of free college for all are only deepening one of the more powerful incentives for military service. Our military is increasingly becoming an afterthought to the next generation, stoking the fires of a burgeoning national security crisis

This Veterans Day - and always - we honor and celebrate the past, current, and future members of our armed services. Our nation’s servicemembers lead in teaching and community-serving positions across the country, and it's with great gratitude that we thank each veteran, and their families, for their selfless service, courage, and dedication. We are the home of the free because of the brave. In honor of Veterans Day, we highlight an analysis by Chad Aldeman, of The 74 Media: “Military Service Should Count as a Successful Pathway for Students. But First We Need Better Data About Graduates.” Aldeman’s analysis breaks down the challenges in tracking successful post-high school outcomes beyond college enrollment to also include career and military service. In response, "a group of state education chiefs [are] working behind the scenes to ask the United States Department of Defense for help in using military service as an indicator of student success." 🔗: https://lnkd.in/gha-nBcA Please join us in honoring all of our nation's veterans, including those who have served across our K-12 partners, candidates, team, and our very own President Joe E. Ross, this Veterans Day. 🇺🇸
