My 5 key takeaways from MJBizCon: 1: The new setup made things worse, not better. While 2 floors stacked on top of eachother with a maze of escalators up isn't ideal... This year's setup was a HIKE from any one point to another. It also seemed like the walkways between booths was HUGE. Not a fan. 2: Grasslands is STILL the party of the week. Small. Intimate. Fun. You can't walk 3 feet without seeing a mover or shaker. The guest list might be hard to get on, but for those who do it's a 5 star affair. Bravo as always Ricardo Baca and team. 3: One on One or small group meetings are still a huge pain. You either need to take an Uber or walk 2 miles to meet anywhere even remotely private or quiet. It's become a haven for entry to mid-level sales folks to talk to other sales folks while the real decision makers are sticking to the peripherals or skipping the event itself entirely. Benzinga Cannabis cracked the code on this... I'd love to see MJBiz adopt a similar setup. 4: I'm still not a fan of the desert or Vegas vibes. It's fun and cool and hip... but it's also hell on the body and a lot of distractions. Everyone is peacocking rather than worrying about their businesses (which is allegedly the whole point of the event). Can we get a new city ever few years? 5: Attendance was CLEARLY down. Whether it's a timing thing or a budget thing or something else... MJBiz is STILL the biggest and baddest event of the year, but it's death grip on the title is faltering. Smaller events and events with a more specific purpose are catching up and catching up FAST. What else do you all have? Any major improvements? Any major disappointments? Stuff you want to see more of? Maybe even a favorite event or anecdote from this year?
