Let's get ready to rumble! My topic this go-round will be "Teamwork Makes The Dream Work." Organizations often tout the benefits of teamwork but propagate incentive systems and cultures that encourage individual behavior. In this session, we will talk about how to look at everything in your organization from a team perspective, and how to leverage teamwork to outpace your competitors. We will cover communication, performance management, compensation, organizational structure, project management, and more (yes, all in 5 minutes and 20 slides).

‘’When you go to that trade show I’d tie your hair up if I was you.’’ That’s what I was told by an old boss when I was attending a trade show a few years back. Apparently the men at the show might not have ‘got’ my hair. What makes it worse is……I actually did it. Before this was said to me I was excited to attend, trade shows are one of the most enjoyable parts of what I do! I love meeting new people and learning about new businesses. Instead I entered the show and I felt self conscious, worried and nervous to approach any of the companies on their trade stands for fear of judgement. I am still affected by some of the things that were said to me in that company. Words have a lasting impact, especially to someone like me who has been judged for my sexuality my entire life. Now that I have my own company I could NEVER imagine saying something like that to one of my team. My advice to anyone reading this is to never ever let someone hold you back and make you second guess yourself. Be yourself. There is only one of you and that quite literally is the secret to your success. If you are lucky enough to have a team that you employ, treat them well. Empower them and celebrate their differences that in turn will make your company beautifully diverse and full of happy, fulfilled and skilled people. ⭐𝟱 𝗧𝗜𝗣𝗦: 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗢 𝗠𝗔𝗫𝗜𝗠𝗜𝗭𝗘 𝗡𝗘𝗧𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗧 𝗔 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗪 [Beginners] Whether you are still in (culinary) school or venturing into the trade show circuit for the first time, here are some tips and tricks on how to make a big impact. ⭐#1. OFFER TO HELP. If you see an exhibitor struggling with hauling things in-and-out of the expo center (and you will), offer an extra set of hands. The conversation along the way is priceless, and they will definitely remember your helpfulness. (This is better done if you are in your chef's coat, because it intuitively verifies you.) ⭐#2. VISIT the booths of the companies you already know and love. Introduce yourself formally. Compliment their work and tell them 𝐰𝐡𝐲 what they do resonates with you. But don't overstay your welcome: keep it short and sweet, and make sure to get a contact name/number on your way out. ⭐#3. NEVER miss the chance to see the Keynote Speaker. It informative, it strikes critical thinking, and it usually becomes a hot topic throughout the day, so you'll want to be in the know. 👉🏼👉🏼TOMORROW: 5 Tips to Working at a Trade Show!👈🏼👈🏼 ⭐#4. SAY YES. If you are ever asked to participate in a panel or presentation at a trade show, say yes! These events are highly visible and widely attended, and the limelight is great for your career. ⭐#5. SAY MAYBE. If you are asked to WORK a trade show by a company or brand, be sure to research them first. Then, via email or text, be sure to get 𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 an outline of what your specific duties will be; and confirm a solid start & end time, as well as compensation. Don’t align yourself with brands that have bad reputations or seek to use your talents in manipulative ways. Above all: smile, enjoy yourself and eat, eat EAT!
