Organizations have been moving away from being focused on “paper and policy” to a unique spot where navigating murky or difficult situations in the right way can help propel a business forward. Cindy loves a challenge, so navigating these unique situations is right up her alley. She keeps this core value in mind every day working with a variety of clients. KEMP Hospice Santa Fun run yesterday - a great event that the Great British weather couldn't dampen. Both Lucy and I donned our suits and legged it 10km around #Kidderminster. 🏃♂️🎅 In first place: Santa 🏆🥇 In second place: Santa 🥈 In third place: Santa 🥉 It was difficult spotting us in the photos in the sea of Santas. Which got me thinking that if you want your business to stand out maybe you should have a chat with us about an Organisational Development Project, some Strategic HR Planning or an Engagement Survey! A study undertaken in Hawthorne, Chicago (1924–32) at Western Electric Company followed a group of workers over several years to see how they worked when being observed. 👀 The results, referred to as the Hawthorne effect (Landsberger, 1958), demonstrated that when they were being paid attention, the work output of workers increased, as did their overall satisfaction levels. 🆙 The researchers found that the participants in the study felt that if they were worth the time spent on observing them, then they must be special and they therefore felt valued by the organisation (Landsberger, 1958; Adair, 1984). It’s one of the unfortunate realities of being a manager: At some point, you’re going to have to discipline an employee. But if undertaken carefully and fairly and with the support of your HR department, such situations need not be distressing.
