Run Meta's Llama 3 on your PC locally Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, has recently unveiled Llama 3, the latest iteration of its large language model. This advanced model is available in two versions: an eight billion (8B) parameter version and a 70 billion (70B) parameter version. In this article, we will explore how to run the 8B parameter version of Llama 3 locally, a more feasible option for standard desktops or laptops that may struggle to run the larger 70B version. To run Llama 3 on Windows, we will use LM Studio. 1. To get started, visit lmstudio.ai and download the appropriate LM Studio version for your system. 2. Install LM Studio. 3. Open LM Studio. 4. Once inside LM Studio, ensure that the Llama 3 model is downloaded. If it’s already installed, it should display on the home page. If it isn’t, use the search bar or search icon on the left-hand vertical bar to find it and then download it. 5. Once Llama 3 is installed, click the AI Chat icon on the left-hand vertical bar within LM Studio. This will open a chat interface similar to ChatGPT. 6. Click Select a model to load at the top of the page. Select the Llama 3 LLM you just downloaded. LM Studio will load the model, which could take a few seconds. You can now chat to Llama 3 on your device.

I love creating videos and I strongly believe everyone should have the same opportunity to create without barriers. So, for Microsoft Fix, Hack, Learn week I tackled video editing without a keyboard and mouse, in Clipchamp of course. Editing with alternative hardware, or any setup you choose, has been on my mind for a while, but after speaking with Intopia members at Web Directions late last year, it became clear there was a real need. I took what I had on hand, an 8BitDo Arcade Stick and an Xbox controller, and keyboard mapped them using open-source AntiMicroX software. You know me, make it work, then make it better. The video is a 1-minute edit of the final result. Sure, it's still in its infancy but it has sparked a desire in me to keep building on this project over time. I hope it inspires others to think, tinker, and innovate on inclusiveness in whatever space you work in. If you want to build a platform that supports disabled users, you have to build supports for disabled users yourself... Anything you do not offer, those who build on your platform will not be able to use. You are setting the ceiling for the accessibility of anything that’s built. And worse, if you let it go so long that third parties start to build tools of their own, it can become nearly impossible to build a unified, usable set of tools from there. Mostly, what happens when you don't set a floor for accessibility, nobody does accessibility work. My Aunt Elizabeth had a condition that gradually took more and more of her motor control. Most of her life was in a wheelchair and she eventually underwent implant surgery to control persistent seizures. Growing up, the family abided by a strict rule: “Everybody plays, or nobody plays.” This rule trickled down to my own family with inclusion being a core value. Imagine my surprise when Microsoft showcased the Xbox Adaptive Controller for accessible gaming with the tagline "when everyone plays, we all win." Accessibility must not be an afterthought but rather an integral part of the design stage and done inclusively. Last week, I was honored to attend the Microsoft Ability Summit in person. That day, my mom said, "Aunt Elizabeth, Grandma, and Grandpa would be so proud of you for the work you're doing at Microsoft." It was a touching moment. I'm humbled to play a small part in how Microsoft empowers customers with a myriad of accessibility offerings. She was fascinated with monarch butterflies.   Elizabeth as a Butterfly Your life on earth was that of a butterfly in her cocoon, expectantly waiting release. Many loved you. During your time in your cocoon, you became beautiful on the inside and out. One day, the layers of your wrappings loosened and gracefully set you free. You are stretching your wings for the first time and gracefully flying around heaven. We can only imagine the intense joy and excitement you felt as you realized you are now free to do things you had never even imagined. We long to see you again someday and your beautiful new wings. 🦋🦋🦋   No one should feel confined by disability, whether physically or mentally. 📚 Just finished "Hit Refresh" by Satya Nadella – not so much a corporate memoir as a compelling call to action on the intersection of technology, empathy, and growth. One story that deeply resonated was about Satya's son, Zain, who had cerebral palsy and a passion for music. Zain's condition made him unable to switch between songs without assistance. That is, until three high school students stepped up, building a Windows app to help Zain control his music by tapping a sensor on his wheelchair. The story reminded me of my first personal interaction with Microsoft. As a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy, inspired by a gut-wrenching course called "War Crimes, Genocide, and Human Rights," I worked alongside two of my peers (Shane & Damian) to design a mobile app. Our goal was to increase public awareness of human rights violations, provide a reporting mechanism for victims of atrocities, and connect everyday people to organizations working to make a difference. Thanks to Microsoft's Xamarin team, our vision became a reality. Xamarin developers put lines of code to our scribbles and PowerPoint animations to build an app we were proud to name Invictus🌄 Presenting our app at the U.S. Holocaust Museum, I marveled at Microsoft's genuine support. This was Microsoft under Satya Nadella's leadership; a Microsoft that embodies a mission to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.
