Taking a break from my normally scheduled recruiting activities to post a quick PSA. Please know that this post comes with absolutely no judgement and is 100% informative. Topic: leveling I have noticed a trend in industry to see many new grad and early in career applicants on Staff level Software Engineering roles. It is my hypothesis that this is due to a lack of information around leveling structure. I would love to provide some information for anyone that may benefit! I also invite anyone interested to take a look at levels.fyi when reviewing roles in their job search to get an idea of how their current level may translate across other companies. Example common leveling structure: - Intern - SWE I (entry level) - SWE II - Sr SWE - Staff SWE - Principal SWE/Architect (most senior IC) Staff ≠ full time At a time in the market when many folks are diligently applying to new opportunities and unfortunately receiving a number of rejection emails in return, I hope this may help to save a little unnecessary let down.
